"Where did you get the flowers?" I asked him, breaking away from the main conversation that was happening around the table about my cousin Gio when he was baby.
"Oh, there's a florist near the coffee shop," he said as he played with the condensation on his glass of water.
I nodded and asked him about his day.
"It was good, I was able to get some important things done."
"Good. Oh, I heard about you hiring Gio. Thanks," I smiled.
"Yeah, of course. I needed the help and he's got some experience so it works out perfectly."
"Are most of your employees students in the area?" I asked curious about his business.
"Um, for the most part. Now that it's summer, I have some high school students as well. But for the most part its kids from the area that attend one of the nearby colleges."
"That's really nice. I know how much college students need money, so it's great that you can give them that opportunity."
"Yeah," he nodded.
"Hey, Bea," Siena called from the other end of the table.
"Yeah?"
The conversation had stopped around the table as Siena asked me a question.
"Are we still going away for the Fourth of July?"
"Um, yeah?" I answered in more a question.
"Michael, what are you doing on the Fourth of July?" Lucia asked.
"Um, nothing. The shop is closed for the holiday."
"Well, all us cousins were going to get an Air BnB house in Lake Tahoe for the weekend," Lucia explained.
"Would you want to come?" I asked him hesitantly.
"Yeah, that sounds awesome. I've never been there."
"Neither have we," I laughed sending the rest of the table into chuckles.
"We saved up to go last year, but something came up and we couldn't all go, so we decided to postpone," Ale explained.
"Yeah, and we all got the approved time off from work right?" Lucia asked glaring at Siena.
"Yes, I requested it off like two months ago," she replied glaring back.
"Good. So, I've found a couple of different houses, we just need to decide which one we like best and we can book it."
"Okay," I nodded, "Do you have them saved?"
"Yeah, I can pull them up on your laptop," Lucia offered.
"Okay, it's in my room next to my bed."
Lucia got up and left the table to head upstairs. The conversation shifted as we overheard the 'adults' from the living room discussing the plans for Father's Day tomorrow.
"Are you going home tomorrow for Father's Day?" Ale asked turning to Michael.
He looked around the table and paused to look at me before responding.
"No, I've got to work, it's a big day for the coffee shop tomorrow and I wanted as many people to be able to have the time off as possible."
"Oh, that's so nice of you," Ale said.
"Yeah," Mikey half-smiled.
The table sat in silence until Lucia entered the room and took her seat at the table.
"So, wait, I was thinking, the more people the less we each have to spend right?"
"Yeah," I responded curiously.
"Well, I don't know if they would want to, but maybe Mikey your friends might want to join?"
"Oh, um, I can ask them. I'm not sure who has the time off, but I can definitely ask them if you guys don't mind?" he asked looking around the table.
"The more the merrier," Ale smiled.
"Okay," she said positioning the computer screen so everyone could see, "this is the first one."
"Ooo," Siena sighed leaning in as Lucia clicked through the photos.
"It's got five bedrooms, eight beds, so plenty of space for all of us. Three bathrooms. And it even has a hot tub and a pool table."
"Okay, I'm sold," Siena said.
"Me too," the rest of us said.
"Okay, okay, there are two more options. Hold your horses," Lucia said clicking on the next tab.
"This one is five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and has ten beds. It has a hot tub, too. And a pool table and barbeque."
"Wow," Gio said as the pictures displayed the gorgeous house.
"Okay, and this is the last one," Lucia said as scrolled through the photos, "It's a little pricier, but is more spacious."
"Hmm, I still think the first one was the best. It's got lots of games and activities and tons of space. Plus it's even the least expensive."
"Yeah, I agree," Siena nodded.
"Okay, everyone in agreeance?" Lucia asked looking around as the rest of the group nodded.
"I'm requesting to book it!" she announced.
"Woohoo!" Gio shouted, receiving a scolding from my dad for yelling in the house.
