An/ Sad chapter warning! ⚠️😭
Okay so personally I don't like to say exactly what the sad stuff is going to be because then it spoils for people who don't mind, so just know that there will be lots of sad stuff going on and if you want the specifics then message me and I'll give you the heads up on it. I will say that this goes in some detail on conversion therapy and I did my research to make things accurate. It's a sad topic and general and hopefully one day it will be illegal everywhere. If you decide to skip this chapter then you can also message me and I'll tell you the important stuff that you need to know before going into the next chapter. I hope this is helpful to say before reading. Also,  * ————— * means that it's the beginning/end of a flashback to Cheryl's time at the sisters.

Cheryl's POV

I walked down the stairs with Mom and Aunt Alice after we heard that the food was here. I just wanted to stay upstairs but I didn't want to be more complicated and unreasonable then I already was. We made it to the table and I went to sit next to Toni since we were sharing our food. I was squinting a lot since I couldn't see because I forgot my contacts upstairs and didn't feel like going back for them.

"Hey, can you see?" Toni asked quietly.

"No. It's fine though."

"No, I'll go get your glasses. They got here this morning and Jason already took them out of the box." She explained as she went over to the counter and picked up the red case. "Here you go."

"Oh. Thanks, Toni." I said as I took the case and opened it to reveal my new glasses. I put them on and then my vision was clear again, then I decided to start eating since I was absolutely starving. I lost my meal privileges yesterday afternoon and wasn't hungry for breakfast before that, so I haven't eaten anything since Friday. I reached out for a french fry and noticed the tiny scratches all over my palm.

"Child! I told you to take the blocks to the east side of the room and you took them to the west! Do it again!" Sister Woodhouse yelled at me.

I've been carrying concrete blocks for a couple hours now and I was absolutely exhausted. My hands were covered in scratches from the concrete and it hurt so much in addition to the strain on my arms. I was told that once I finished I would be allowed to eat lunch and rest before an appointment I had later on.

"But you said I'd be able to eat when I was done and I'm too tired to do it again." I said as I tried to catch my breath and I quickly regretted saying a word. Before I knew it I was being dragged out of the basement and upstairs to another room, where I was forced to sit down while two nurses attached little wires to me.

I began to tear up as I remembered what happened and everyone noticed that I was getting upset again.

"Hey it's okay, Cheryl." Toni whispered. "Do you wanna go eat upstairs?"

"Yes, please." I nodded and then looked at my mom. "Is that okay?"

"Yeah, sweetie it's fine. Just bring your trash down and don't leave a mess." She explained.

"Yes ma'am."

Toni told me to go ahead and she would grab our food and bring it up, which I was fine with since I didn't want to cry in front of everyone again. Toni walked in after I sat on my bed and handed me my drink and then sat next to me, opening the two boxes of food for us.

"Thank you for being so patient with me, Toni." I said quietly as I kept looking down at my lap.

"Of course, Cher. I don't know what happened but it must've been a lot. It's important for you to take all the time you need for this." She smiled as she ate a couple french fries.
