•CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE•
"I know, I'm fine I promise." I sounded like a broken record, repeating those words constantly for almost three weeks now.
Everyone around me seemed to be walking on eggshells or thin ice. As if I was meant to explode or have a breakdown.
Truth is, of course I wasn't going to be perfect. I wasn't going to suddenly start singing 'Kumbaya' every place I went.
But people—demons, rather— like Desa, kept pestering me. They didn't realize that their unnecessary huddling and inquiring would be the one thing to finally tick me off.
"Are you sure? Do you need anything or would you like for me to call Lord H-"
I whip around, pointing a finger at her. "Don't you keep going. Your voice is drilling a hole into my skull."
She halts in her place, throwing her hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay don't murder me."
I scoff, rolling my eyes. "I wish."
She laughs softly, quickening her steps to catch up to me.
Today, I thought it better to visit the village people. Since the day of the attack, I've been assisting in rebuilding the place. I've created a more modern look, but not too unusual that they wouldn't recognize their home.
Hades became ten times more protective, and now it wasn't only Desa who had to be around me 25/8, there were other guards. Huge, bald men with tattoos on their heads. They barely spoke, and when they did I could see sharp teeth that created difficulty in understanding how they even fit in their mouths.
He even went as far as throwing a tantrum when I made the decision to help the villagers rebuild. We had a disagreement that lasted a few hours, and then he made it up to me by apologizing with a romantic night.
"What a sap.." Desa remarked amusedly.
I slapped her arm, narrowing my eyes at her. "He's my sap and your Lord. I'd advise on not calling him names."
"I agree." A deep voice grumbles into the room. I smile to myself, focusing on placing my clothes in the closet.
Desa turned, her eyes widening. "I'll just uh.."
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Desa sneak by him with a pale face. She bows before taking flight out of the room.
Within seconds, I feel cold hands take hold of my waist. "I've missed you." His husky voice whispers in my ear.
I smile, turning around to place a soft kiss on his lips. "I've missed you more."
"Hello?" Fingers snap in front of my face and I shake my head, ridding myself of my thoughts.
"What?"
"You were just staring with this creepy smile on your face. I had to make sure you weren't possessed or some shit."
I deadpan, "Really?"
She shrugs, "Happens."
