A super quick before you read : since this goes along with my other book "When Alaska Met Jerome" J will still have his face intact. In my other book Alaska stopped Dwight from cutting off her man's face so that's the reasoning. If you have any other questions concerning things from that book then you can message me or read it along with bgail23 "When Potter Meets Jeremiah." Her book is amazing, but seeing as mine was my first published FF, it's not great and I hope to edit it soon. Also that pic on top is not mine it's from Pinterest. Sorry for all this and without further ado I give you part 42 (It's pretty long and I'm kind of proud).

Novella had to admit, she adored Martin. She liked that he wasn't as normal as the other children she'd met in her life. It wasn't that she preferred he didn't talk, she just thought that it made him special, but on the other hand she knew it must make him a target. She also knew that people didn't stop talking for no reason.
It was because of all that, that she developed an attachment to the boy within the few hours they had known each other. If someone had asked her to care for the boy indefinitely she would've undoubtedly said yes. To her dismay, she wasn't asked. In fact, it was Victor that had retrieved Martin from her and whisked him off someplace, only giving her a small amount of time to say goodbye now that Martin was supposed to be dead.
Now, she and Victor were sitting on their bed with a cat and dog at their feet. The two animals had become surprisingly close in the time that they'd lived together, but Asterion still nipped at Wesson every now and then while Wesson would swat at Asterion's tail. Novella thought it was an adorable relationship.
"Nove, what're you thinking about?" Victor asked her. He had angled his head sideways so that he very much resembled a puppy with his brown eyes.
"Our darling pets mainly, but beyond that, Jerome Valeska." Novella saw the switch in Victor flip at the name. He'd never really liked Jerome, not that Novie could blame him, and it showed whenever the name was mentioned.
"Why are you thinking about that psychotic undead brat?" Victor's voice was dripping venom with every word, but Novella didn't comment on it.
"Barbara said he might know who my mom is. I know you won't want me to go, but I'm seeing him at Arkham today." Victor's already stiff body tensed even more, and Novella wondered just how pissed he was about to get.
"You just have healed from your encounter with the Pyg and that's if we don't count how tender that one spot on your head still is," Victor started with pleading eyes. "I just think it'd be better if you waited a little while so I can go with you to keep you safe."
Novella was shocked. Not at the fact that he obviously didn't want her to go, but at the way that he didn't shut it down. They'd been together for around four years and if she thought about it there really wasn't a time he'd shut her down. It made her love him all the more, but she knew he couldn't step a legal foot in Arkham.
"I can't wait, Vic. I think something big is about to happen and I need to know before everything goes to shit."
"You can't possibly know that everyth-"
"This is Gotham, everything is always going to shit. I just want to get in front of this shitstorm so it's not getting all over my face and in my hair." Novella ran her fingers through her long hair which prompted Victor to follow suit.
Victor would never tell anyone -except maybe Nova- how much he loves her hair. Despite the constant dying she did it didn't feel dead, and he had no idea how she did it.
