36 - Near Death Experience

Start from the beginning

Claire and NotEnrique grabbed one of the crates and Blake grabs one of the crates in the back and struggled to get them toward the portal. Claire asked where they were and NotEnrique mentioned "starboard" and "captain". He thought he was on a spaceship but Blake knew what those meant.

Being the only who travels on any transportation vehicle, she was the only one who knew what that meant.

"We're on a cargo ship!" Blake exclaimed. Claire and NotEnrique gasped and can hear the large container rumbling, "they're dumping us into the ocean!" Blake exclaimed. She dropped the crate.

The other two began to panic, "but - I - but Suzy can't swim!" they all grunt as they felt the container move and rumble. Claire declared to hold on to something sturdy but they ended up flying into the air as the metal container they were in had been dumped into the ocean. Blake ended up landing on her back. She gasped for air and could feel her back throbbing in pain.

Blake could hear ringing in her ears which made her scream in pain.

"Blake, what's wrong?!" Claire ran to her side and try to grab Blake by her wrists but she kept screaming and holding onto her ears.

It only lasted for a few seconds of the high pitched ringing, Blake panted, "I'm okay now, let's get these crates out of here," Blake declares.

Claire nods and went to get the crates out of there. Blake carried the crate she dropped and threw it into the portal.

The metal around them started to creak and break around them. The water started to leak through the little holes of the metal container, "the metal can't hold for long! The water's going to pour in at any minute! Hurry!" Claire exclaimed.

Blake growled, "the walls are already leaking! Move it!"

All of them started to move each crate while Toby on the other side of the portal "catching" the pieces that were crushing him.

They were still moving the crates into the portal but Blake noticed that she was getting exhausted and panting. But she was able to get the crates out by the portal but each portal was going away quicker and quicker by the second.

The portal closed. Blake and NotEnrique gasped, "oh no! The portal!"

Claire grabbed her shadow staff and tried to make another, but she was more exhausted than ever, "it won't work. I got nothing left," Claire stated with a tired and concerned expression.

NotEnrique changeling eyes widen but it immediately turned into an angered expression. Blake couldn't hear anything all she heard was muffled voices from NotEnrique shouting at Claire and Claire shouting back. Blake was still moving one of the crates in the back using her upper body strength but she ended up falling instead. Blake could feel her strength going away within an instant of one more push.

Blake grunted. She looked at her hands and saw the veins in her hands were growing and getting slightly darker.

"You... you baby genius!" Claire happily exclaimed. NotEnrique knew that he was a genius. Claire opened a portal and placed it down on the other crate. Blake was able to get the crate she was pushing in the portal, the water started to flood in rapidly. They all gasp and went up on the last large crate.

"We're never gonna get 'em all! Time to bail out of this death trap!" NotEnrique suggested.

"No! We lose the bridge, we lose Jim. We need this last crate," Claire declared. They looked down and saw the water rising.

Blake ended up falling into the water. Luckily, it was only at knee height, "Blake!"

"It's okay, it's only at my knees!" Blake points out, she suddenly felt a pain in her heart that was tightening, "it's only water, it's only water, it won't kill me, unless if it kills me when it enters my lungs!" Blake's hand started to shake in fear.

"Blake! Calm down! I'll get us out!" Claire knew that they would, but she needed the emotion she needed. As she was thinking of anything that made her angry the water was rising up towards the top of the crate and upon Blake's neck on her tippy toes.

NotEnrique was now panicking and was begging for Claire to open a portal and that she's got something else in her that is stronger than the anger in her. Claire tried and tried but she wasn't able to open a portal at all.

"I can do this. I can do this!" Claire repeated to herself.

"So, do it already!" NotEnrique exclaims.

"Don't let us die!" Blake took a big deep breath in and put herself under water. So did Claire and NotEnrique. Claire tried to open a portal but it wasn't able to with each swing she tried. Blake could feel the oxygen in her lungs fading. Blake wasn't that good in holding her breath that long.

Blake opens her mouth and some water entered her mouth. Blake immediately closed her mouth and held her breathe a little longer by holding her nose to prevent the water from entering her nose.

NotEnrique grunted as he was struggling to breathe. Claire looked up and noticed him losing his breath underwater. Then, he lost consciousness.

Claire screamed underwater and saw Blake as well, she wasn't breathing and slowly floating upwards. Her tears were forming at the corners of her eyes and she began to fear for Blake and NotEnrique. She was going to lose them.

On the other side, Toby was facing Steve who was about to punch his face, telling him that he was worthless and couldn't fight back without his friend Jim there.

"You're wrong! I'm not worthless! I'm gonna get Jim back!" Toby shouts, he grunts as he brings his fist up but a large black portal appeared in the air. A large amount of water came through.

"You know what? Claire's right. You're not worth it!" Toby began, "Steve, have you ever heard of the expression 'heads up'?" He questioned as he stepped back.

"What?--" he gets cut off by getting hit by a large crate. Toby laughed.

"NotEnrique is not breathing!" Claire exclaimed. Toby gasped and ran toward them and performed CPR on the small little changeling. He pushed his hands on his chest until he coughed out water. They were glad that he was breathing again until Claire remembered about Blake, she looked around and saw Blake lying on her side, her body wasn't moving up and down as humans would breathe. Claire crawled towards her.

Blake's pale skin was paler than ever. Claire was scared, "Blake, no, no, no!" Claire tried to turn her body onto her back to perform CPR. Claire gasped and did the performance of CPR by giving mouth-to-mouth and pressing on her chest.

"Come on, Blake!" Claire exclaimed as she continued to press onto her chest. Within in 10 seconds of doing CPR, Claire was losing hope that Blake wasn't going to wake up.

Claire's eyes started to form tears at the corner of her eyes, "don't tell me she's..." Toby didn't want to finish his sentence.

"Yes, she's... dead, she fought for so long with us and helped us--" Claire was stating the good facts about Blake.

"Yeah and we didn't even get to repay her," Toby says, his tears formed as well.

It was silent. They wanted to honour Blake.

Blake coughed loudly as she gurgled. The water was coming out and she quickly turned to her side and coughed out the rest of the water trapped in her lungs. Claire and Toby laughed in relief. Blake looked at them and saw tears, "what happened?"

Claire wiped her tears, "you died from drowning,"

"How am I alive?!" Blake questioned loudly, worried about what she has been through. Her hands were shaking in fear.

"CPR," Claire says, she hugged her tightly, "I am glad that you're alive!"

"Yes! Nobody is not dying tonight when we're this close to saving Jimbo!" Toby exclaims.

Blake noticed Steve unconscious under that large crate, "uh, I think we should put Steve somewhere else, he could wake up at any minute," Blake suggested. Claire and Toby agreed.

While they get Steve up and get him somewhere else, Blake was thinking about her near-death experience. It made her feel scared about the future now, she didn't know if she'll want to do the Trollhunters duties and help them when she was going to die slowly anyway.

How was she going to break the news to the rest of the Trollhunters and family?
