Dread filled Peter as he shrunk down in the assembly room, almost everyone else in the room sharing his unenthusiasm.

The principal had just announced the christmas concert, and every class was required to perform one song.

It would be quite a lot of classes, which was why the senior classes had the choice. Peter, unfortunately, was still not of that age, and shared a look with Ned, who looked as though he dreaded this as much as Peter.

Everyone sat in their desks with the music teacher who was helping their class to decide on a song, and all the other things that came with it.

"Alright, so I want everyone to write a song on a piece of paper that doesn't include swearing in it, and we're going to do a vote on those." The teacher told them, handing out small pieces of paper.

Five different people asked to borrow a pen, for most didn't bother bringing one to class- especially since the exams were over and there was essentially no work to be done since report cards had been sent out.

Peter had gotten all A's again, which he was pretty proud of, and so was his family, the report card being stuck on the fridge.

Peter tapped his pen against the desk, chewing his lip and trying to decide on a song. MJ had already written hers down, and was reading at her desk.

In the end, Peter just wrote down The Days by Avicci, which he had sung with his class when he graduated primary school (or whatever it's called in America- elementary school??) because he couldn't think of anything else.

The teacher read aloud the options, their normal teacher writing everything down on the whiteboard.

"We've got the little einsteins theme song remix, Halo, Another one bites the dust, this is me, good things come to those who wait, shotgun, cooking by the book lazy town remix, rock you, warrior, sleigh ride, there's nothing holding me back, the days, royals, see you again, baby it's cold outside, and underneath the tree. The others are inappropriate songs that we're not considering as options." The teacher told the class. "Now, you can only vote once, so hands up for the little einstein's theme song remix?"

Quite a few people's hands went up, and soon enough it was narrowed down to two songs; cooking by the book lazy town remix, and rock you.

Eventually, with the teacher's voting as well, they ended up with rock you.

That was when they dropped the bigger bomb: auditions for solos, compulsory for everyone, including poor Anna, who had social anxiety.

The room was empty aside from the music teacher and the normal teacher, the loud chatter of students outside the door heard by Peter's ears.

"Hello Mr Parker, before we begin, we have a couple of questions for you." The music teacher told him, clicking her pen and looking up from her clipboard with a smile.

"Um, okay." Peter said awkwardly, fiddling with his sweaty hands.

"Do you play any instruments?"

"Y-yes, I uh, learnt how to play the guitar a while ago but I'm uh, a little rusty..."

"Would you say that you're a good singer?"

"I think I'm an okay singer, I mean, I'm not the best..."

"Alright, sing something, anything at all."

Peter swallowed, trying to think of the lyrics to a song. He cleared his throat, then began.

"I was scared of dentists and the dark," he sang, eyes trained on the piece of paper in the corner of the desk. "I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations, and all my friends are turning green, you're the magicians assistant in their dreams." Peter sang the rest of the song up until the end of the first chorus, then glanced up at the two teachers nervously.
