Two days before Christmas, Peter finally declared with conviction that his Animagus form was a rat.

Then the Marauders took out the book on Animagus again.

"Say, look at this stuff. Got to smuggle them from the Potions room, isn't it?" said James.

"If we stayed back for Christmas, we might've stolen them," said Sirius, smiling.

But they weren't staying at Hogwarts this year. Mr. and Mrs. Potter had invited all three of their son's friends at their place.

They left for the holidays together. The Potter's house elf, Jinny, welcomed them enthusiastically.

A very beautiful and cheerful Christmas tree had been decorated and put up. There were plenty of presents for everyone, including a candle holder and a flower vase for Jinny.

Christmas was a very cheerful affair at the Potter household. Anne Potter loved all of them like her son, and Harold Potter had, as they soon discovered, a mischievous sense of fun that mirrored his son's.

They returned to Hogwarts through Floo Powder after New Year.

Sirius, who had never in his life hugged his mother, spontaneously hugged Mrs. Potter before leaving.
