A/N: Well the writing spree ended quickly as it came. Oh well. Here's the next one
Melissa's POV
All five kids froze. Mitch and Kirstie hadn't ever used or heard any phrase revolving around a younger sibling, but they had an idea of what it was. They knew that they were the younger siblings of their brothers. Kevin was the first to find his voice.
"A baby brother?" he said.
"Yes. A friend of mine called and asked if we wanted to meet him and possibly take him in."
"Why?" Avi asked.
"He lost his parents and needs a loving home and someone to take care of him." I said.
"Mitch & Kirstie are youngest." Scott said.
"Yes, they are the youngest as the moment. But this little boy needs a forever family." Henry said gently.
"NO! WE THE BABY!" Mitch half-screamed whilst pointing to himself and Kirstie. He seemed very against this.
"So that's a no from Mitch then. What do the rest of you think? We're not going to agree to this unless the majority are okay with it." Henry said.
"I don't know Dad. Isn't it crazy enough with the five of us?" Kevin asked. He did have a point. Though we did have room for one more.
"Don't you at least want to meet him?" Faith said. I had almost forgotten they were here.
"Can we do that?" Avi asked.
"We can definitely ask. And maybe try it out for one weekend, see how it goes?" Henry said. Well he's coming round to the idea.
"Okay. That." Scott said. The boys nodded with him. Kirstie still seemed unsure. Or confused. Not quite sure which. She just shrugged her shoulders. She'd been too quiet.
"Alright, we'll see if we can set up a test weekend to see how it goes." Henry said. "Go ahead and play." They all scampered into the back garden.
"We can stay for a while if you want to go and meet him today." Faith said.
"I'll call my friend and let her know. Thanks Faith." She just smiled and followed the kids outside.
A little later on, we were on our way to the orphanage to visit with Matt. It was quite an exceptional circumstance. The only things we knew about him were his name, age and how his parents died. It was odd to think that this little boy a complete stranger to us could potentially become part of our family. Not much was said on the journey there. As it was just myself & Henry, both of our thoughts were solely on Matt.
My friend greeted us when we arrived at the orphanage.
"Hi you two! So glad you decided to come and meet Matt this afternoon." She said with a big smile.
"Can you tell us more about him? We only know what you've already told us." I asked.
"Absolutely. Well you already know how his parents died and that he's 18 months old. His full name is Matthew Sallee and he's an only child. He doesn't appear to have any major repercussions from the crash, but he does get a little nervous in cars." She said as we went to Matt's room. Well it was technically a baby room. There were 5 or 6 cribs around the room, most of which were unoccupied. "All the others are playing at the moment, but Matt was sleepy, so we let him have a nap."
Matt was still asleep, but he was definitely adorable. He was also the same skin colour as Kevin. That should make things a little easier, he can bond with Kevin. He looked just a bit smaller than Kirstie, but she's small for her age anyway. I was so focused on how adorable he was that I barely noticed he was waking up. Once his eyes were fully open and he saw us, he let out a soft happy noise and smiled.
"Hi!" he said.
"Hi there Matt. My name is Melissa, and this is my husband Henry." He looked over to Henry and continued to smile. He then lifted his arms wanting to be picked up. Acting on my mother instinct I picked him up immediately and cuddled him close. This felt right. I looked to Henry and I could tell he was thinking the same thing I was.
"Mama?" Matt said. So he knew what this visit meant. Smart boy.
"Maybe so sweetie." I said to him. I looked to my friend. "Is there any way we can do a try-out for a weekend?"
"Of course you can. Next weekend okay?" she asked. We both nodded. "Alrighty, that's fine. We'll see you both Friday afternoon to pick him up?"
"Sounds good." I said. Before I put Matt down, I gave him a kiss on the cheek and Henry did the same. Then it was time for us to go. We waved to Matt as we were leaving, he seemed upset that we were going, but he knew that we were coming back in a few days. Hopefully this will work out and be drama-free.
A/N: Drama-free or not drama free? What do you reckon it will be?
