Chapter 3

Where was he taking me?

He brought me to the living room with all the other teenagers. They were five of them and they all had a gun. They yelled for everyone to stay silent. Kayla looked so scared. We were on our knees or just sitting down on the floor.

Suddenly the sirens of the police cars were heard and the guys became very stressed.

"Who called the cops?!" A guy screamed very angrily.

A police officer, with a megaphone, began to talk:

"Let the innocent teens go. You don't want to end up in prison, right? Don't do something you'll regret later." He talked in a calm and comforting voice.

"Kyle! I don't want to go to prison we should do a deal with them." One of the guys replies with a scared voice.

"Fine! We don't need them anyway." The Kyle dude answered. "We'll let some of the hostages go, don't shoot." He continued while yelling to the officers. "Or do, I don't care." He whispered for himself.

They let some of the hostages go. The ones who were closer to the door. One hostage after one minute. There were five hostages left plus me. Kayla was already released in the first minutes. James was still here. James stared at me. I knew he wanted me to look him in the eyes but I didn't want to get consoled by the one who created this mess in the first place.

After more than five minutes the negotiator asked if all of the hostages were out. Kyle answered 'no' and that we wouldn't be set free for now.

The police all started to talk, to each other worried. Kyle started to stare at James as if he would want to fight him. I guess he won't since the cops are right outside.

"Hello? What else would you want, to make sure the hostages are safe and sound?" The police officer questions in the megaphone. "How many are still in the house?" He continues.

"We need hostages to make sure you guys listen to us," Kyle responded to the police guy.

"Okay. I understand but how many are still in there?" The officer asked again.

Kyle thought a lot before answering:

"We have five hostages left!"

The six of us looked at each other with big eyes. Why would he lie? What was his plan? I bet everyone thought of the same thing. Someone won't be getting out of this, alive.

"So what do you guys want? Why are you holding some hostages?"

"Because we need time," Kyle whispered. "It was the only way you guys would give us any attention." Kyle lied to the cops. "A jerk killed my brother and you didn't bother to find him and make him pay," Kyle screamed clearly the emotions got the best of him. "You should find him or one of them will die!" He confesses while yelling.

I tried to sit up straight to see what was happening outside. I saw all the freed hostages some were crying, others were just being sad and the rest were shocked. And I saw new police cars arriving.

Clearly, this was a serious act.

"Okay. Who was your brother? I'll see what I can find out." The negotiator accepted the deal.

"My brother was Daniel Davis!" Kyle answered. "You better find his killer or someone will suffer greatly!" He retorts.

"I got it. I'll see what I can find." The negotiator answered.

We heard some chit chat from the officers.

"Why did you said there were five of us when there's six?" I asked.

Kyle looked shocked that someone talked.

"Well that's only because one of you has to die," Kyle responded. "It's easy, isn't it? I wonder who it'll be?" Kyle questions while putting his fingers on his chin like as if he was thinking.

"Then why do you need time?" I inquire. "Because if you know that someone will die why don't you do it now?" I riposte.

"Milena!" A shocked James loudly said. "Stop it." He added.

"Ohhhh. That's Milena?" Kyle understood. "I see why you like her! She's fierce." He admits with a creepy smile.

"You wanted this to end?" Kyle asked me while staring in my eyes. "Well, I guess your wish has been heard. You're the one I wanted." Kyle said while staring into my eyes and giving me a dark evil smile. "You're the one who will die!" Kyle ended.

"We finished looking through our database." The officer intervened. "The only data under Daniel Davis is a young man who committed suicide." He continued. "I think you mistook your brother's accident." He added.

Kyle was shocked after hearing it.

"Well, I guess you didn't keep your promise," Kyle yelled to the negotiator. "This is on you officer," Kyle warned him.

The officer asked what he meant but Kyle stopped listening to the cops.

He looked at me while telling his men:

"Release the hostages."

"Yes, Boss!" His men answered together and moved everyone.

Kyle came close to my ear and whispered:

"I'm sorry, honey. This is going to hurt a lot."

This time he didn't let one person per minute out.

The last one to go was James. He didn't want to go since he knew what it meant.

After they successfully forced him outside he just started screaming. The captors locked the door. The officers grabbed him and told him he was safe and free. The officers counted five persons. So they asked Kyle and his men to surrender or they would come in by force.

It was then that James screamed that there was one last hostage. The officers thought he was just lost from the shock. Kayla did notice that I wasn't outside. And she knew James wouldn't be that crazy about anybody else. That's when it hit her.

"Mile-" Kayla started but she was cut off by the big bang that was made.

I put my hand on my abdomen. I felt something liquid on my hands, I brought my hand to my eyes so I could see what happened. My hand was red.

The officers realized their mistake.

I couldn't be bothered because I needed to concentrate on my breathing. I couldn't focus on my breathing so it was uneven and I found it hard to take breaths.

Kyle wasn't right, I couldn't feel anything.

I heard Kayla screaming and crying while saying my name.

James too wasn't too happy about the officers who thought they finished their job easily. I think he hit one after hearing the gunshot.

I guess Kyle decided he really didn't want me to survive because he shot me again but closer to my heart. This time, the officers stormed the house after the second gunshot.

When the police apprehended everyone, I just saw Kayla and James running to me. The police tried to get them to leave the scene but they didn't move.

Sadly, I couldn't hold on, on my feet anymore. My world became black and I hit the ground.
