Jackie Kennedy’s Bedroom, the White House

Thursday 21st November 1963

Jackie was sitting on her bed playing with her wedding ring. She felt nervous about going back out on the campaign trail but she didn’t want to leave her husband.

She was sitting lost in thought when she felt a pair of arms wrap round her. She relaxed slightly and leaned back against her husband. She felt so safe in his arms. “Are you alright kid?”

“I’m just nervous I guess.”

“You’ll be great I know it.” Jack replied before kissing her hair.

She smiled as she placed her hand on top of his. “I love you.”

“I love you too Jackie.”

They were sitting in silence when Kenny poked his head in. “Just to let you know sir, we’re ready when you are.”

Jack nodded. “Thank you Kenny.”

“You ready?” Jack asked.

Jackie nodded and stood up. Jack wrapped her in his arms. His cologne made her feel safe. “I promise I’ll look after you.”

Jackie smiled. “Thank you bunny.”

He slipped his hand into hers and guided her to Marine One. John dashed across the lawn. “Me come too!”

“Ok you can come in the helicopter.” Jack said.

“Yay!”

“You do know he’ll be disappointed when he finds out he’s not coming to Texas with us.”

“Yeah.”

John was sitting on his Dad’s knee as they headed to Andrews. When the helicopter landed Jackie kissed the top of John’s head. “I’ll see you soon John be good for Nanny Shaw, I love you.”

“Love you too Mummy.”

Jack smiled and hugged John tightly. “I love you and I’ll see you on Sunday and then we can have a party for your birthday.”

“Don’t leave me Daddy!” John wailed.

Jack hugged his son again. “See you soon John.”

Before he got off he turned to Agent Foster. “Look after him for me Mr Foster.”

“Of course Mr President.”

Jack nodded and headed of the helicopter. Jackie was waiting for him. “You alright?”

“Yes I just feel sad we have to leave John.”

“I know but we’ll be back on Sunday.”

Jack nodded and headed up the steps. Jackie followed behind. “Mr President, Mrs Kennedy can we discuss the itinerary please?” Kenny asked. Jack nodded and guided Jackie through to his office. “You can sit in my chair kid.” Jack smiled as he pulled the comfy office chair out. She smiled. “Thank you.”

Jack grinned as he sat down; his staff had never seen the First Couple as close.
