I had attempted to visit Jacob, but Hades wouldn't allow it. He "forbade" me to ever see him again. I assumed he was joking because nobody controlled what I did. I knew my limits in life, so my mother and father trusted me to make smart decisions on my own. We had argued for about twenty minutes in the car before I finally gave in.

"Drink this."

A golden cup filled with a dark liquid was shoved in my face, and I could've sworn I heard the tiny hairs in my nose shrivel up and die from the stench.

"What in the fuck is that?" I turn my head, scrunching my nose up in disgust.

"This is a concoction I've created. It'll help you on your journey with me. We'll be traveling far, and I suppose you don't want to see the souls of those who betrayed themselves?"

I raise my gaze to his face, and I see no trace of amusement hidden anywhere. Shit, he was being serious?

"Very. Now drink up." He passes me the cup, twisting on his heel to grab his jacket from its position on the chair.

I knew I should've fought him on following him back to the Underworld.

I stare long and hard at the dark, thick liquid sitting in the cup.

"You sure I can't just take some type of medication from here? Maybe a Xanax or whatever?" I look up at him with pleading eyes.

He chuckles, sauntering towards me. He places the back of his hand on my cheek, caressing the skin softly. "You'll be okay, my love. Drink up." His voice softens, and I feel calmness rush through me.

I roll my eyes, taking a deep breath as he steps away from me. I lift the cup to my lips, the smell invading my senses, causing me to hesitate.

He walks around me, and I feel his body heat radiate into mine. He presses his hands onto my waist gently, squeezing it. "Go on."

Erasing all of my thoughts, I take it down as fast as I can. As soon as it hit my taste buds, I have to force myself to not gag.

He slowly pulls me to him, my back pressing to his front as I chug it all down.

He kisses my ear gently, trailing kisses down to my neck. My head falls back, and I notice that my vision is becoming increasingly blurry.

"Wh..what was in that?" My voice sounds so distant to my ears, slurred.

I hear him shuffle behind me as he lifts me in his arms, "Sleep, my love."

I feel my body slump against his, not being able to hold its own weight. Blackness clouds my vision, and I'm once again lost in a world of dreams.

Shuffling. That's what I heard as I woke from my deep slumber. I could only register the cold biting at my skin.

I open my eyes, only to see more darkness. Panic arises in me until I turn my head, glancing at a light shining through what I assumed was a window.

"Oh! You're up!"

I scream, immediately shifting into an upright position.
