Ch. 21 Hurricane/Little Clown (Part: 1)

                                    

                                          

Jess Narrating: As time flew by I was already nine months pregnant. Jared and I couldn't be more proud to be welcoming a new member to the Leto family. 
Early one morning at about 9:30 am, I woke up to the sweet smell of food. I heard paws running up the stairs and then walking into Jared's and my bedroom. "Good morning Loki," I said as I rubbed behind his ears. "Where's Jared?" "Woof, woof." "Oh, he's downstairs. Good boy. Go tell him I'll be down in a minute." "Woof, howl" I laugh as Loki ran once more to give Jared my message. As I was walking down the staircase I heard a loud bang. Luckily I was on the last step when I the bang, so I ran into the kitchen where the bang came from. When I walked in, I saw Jared and Loki covered in pancake mix. I couldn't help but laugh. Jared smiles and walks over to me. "Well, good morning Mommy and good morning to you too little one." "Good morning love of my life. How's the pancake mix" I said with a smirk. "Oh ha ha, very funny," Jared said. "Loki clean up Jared." "Woof." Loki happily licked off all of the pancake mixes of Jared. 
After everything was cleaned up, Jared went back to making breakfast for us, while I fed Loki. I turned on the TV and dropped Loki's food bowl. This is what I saw on the TV: "Today, the Joker was arrested late last night at 42nd Second Street. He will be having a court hearing later on this upcoming afternoon, where he will be judged on whether he will be put back into Arkham or will be put to death." My heart sank when I heard that my dad would be put to death. I broke down crying. Jared heard me and ran to my aid. "Hey. Shh..., it's okay. It's okay." "No, it's not Jared! My dad could be put to death! He is my everything. Without him, I'm alone." "Don't worry babe. I'll get him a lawyer and everything will be okay, I promise." "I want to go down to the courthouse now. I need to see him." "Okay." Jared helped me up, took me upstairs and we both got ready. I wore my black jeans with a dressy white tank top and a black sweater vest. Jared wore jeans and a dress shirt. As soon as we were ready, we headed right to the courthouse. Once there I saw my dad all in chains, I tried to run to him but was stopped by an officer. "Ma'am, I'm sorry but you can't go near him." "Why not?! I'm his lawyer!" "Oh, my mistake. Go on in. "I love you, Jared." "I love you, babe. Go get 'em. " "Does the prosecutor have anyone willing to be this prisoner's lawyer?" The judge asked. "I do. I'm sorry I'm late but the traffic was terrible." I said. "Oh, well that's quite fine, Ms.?" "Mrs. Leto" "Mrs. Leto. Has your client have an opening statement?" "No, your honor, but I do, if I may." "You may." "Thank you, your honor. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. This man that stands before you is a villain, a murderer, a psychopath, etc. But to me, this man is a father." (The juries gasp and were shocked when I said that) "How is that murder a father?!" A person yelled. "I'm going to tell you. I'm his daughter. For you see, my birth parents didn't care about me. They HATED me. When my birth mother gave birth to me, she abandoned me outside in the cold, in a box behind a dumpster. I cried, in hopes someone would save me and this man did. Joker took me in and raised me as his own. Yes, I did do bad things and I paid the price. I spent 12 years in Arkham. After a while I didn't want to be a villain anymore, I wanted a normal life and I got it. I have a loving husband who is the love of my life and a baby that's on the way. So I'm begging you, PLEASE don't put my dad on death row or any death penalty." I begged as tears rolled down my face. "Is that true, Joker? Did you raise her as your child?" The judge asked. "Yes, judge." He replied emotionless. "The court will take a 15-minute recess." "Jessie? Why did you say that?" My dad said as he looked at me. "Because I-I didn't want to lose you," I said as broke down crying in his arms. Just then Jared came around. "You were a villain? You kept that from me?!" "Jared, please let me-" "No. What else are you hiding?!" "She's hiding nothing, Jared. She wanted to be normal. I let her choose the life she wanted, not to be living out as a villain all the time, like me." My dad said as he stood over my body. "Do you love me, Jess?" "Yes, Jared. I would live for you and our baby. But if you want a divorce, I'll-" I was cut off by Jared kissing me. "I love you." I love you too, Jared."
After the 15-minute break was over, the judge came back in. "Has the jury reached a verdict?" "We have your honor. We-" The man who speaking got off of me grunting, because my water had broke. "Someone call 9-1-1! Jess, baby. Stay with me." "Jared, it hurts." "I know, don't worry. You'll be safe soon." "Judge. The ambulance can't get through, the traffic is backed up." "Shit. What do we do?" "Look for a doctor, someone!" "Ahhh! It hurts so bad." "I know, babe. But an ambulance should be on its way." "C-call mom." "Okay, baby." "Is there a doctor here?" An officer asked. Everyone looked at each other and said "No." As the hours passed I become more and more uncomfortable. "Move. I know how to do this." My dad said. "How can we trust you?" an officer said. "Listen I know everyone hates me, but if I don't aid my daughter, we are going to have a big problem." "Fine." the officer said as he removed my dad's chains. "Jessie, sweetie. I need you to start pushing." "D-dd-daddy, I can't." "Yes, you can. Think of me, Jared, your mom, Loki. Now when I count to three, you push, okay?" "Yes." "Okay. 1. 2. 3." "Harley is on her way. How can I help?" "Go help your wife by encouraging her." Jared nods his head. As I was doing my final push, my mom came in, and within seconds, there was silence in the courtroom, but the sound of a crying baby could be heard. 
My mom ran to aid me, while my dad and Jared aid the baby. "Someone grab a blanket and foil." My dad ordered. A female officer came back with an animal-printed blanket and foil. Jared took them from her and did what my dad told him to do. I felt more pain. "Uh, Mr. J, I don't think Jessie is done." My mom said. "Ahhhh! Damn it! It hurts!" My dad ran back to aid me once more. "Okay, honey. I need you to start pushing again." "No, Daddy. It hurts too much." "I know it hurts baby, but you need to do it." With that said I started to push once more. As I came to my last push, another crying baby could be heard, but I blacked out. They wrapped our babies up and held them for the first time. My dad walked away to wash his hands. He came back and waited for an officer to chain him back up, but no one did. Later two EMTs arrived and took me and the babies to the ER. "J? Aren't you coming?" Jared asked my dad. "No. Tell Jess that I'm sorry but I can't." "Your honor? Can you just give my father-in-law a warning or something? He just helped his daughter, my wife, give birth." The judge thought about it and said "Alright. Joker is free to go, but if he slips up, the show's over." "Thank you, your honor." With that said, my parents and Jared followed the ambulance to the ER.
