Kira finally returned to her room, exhausted beyond imagination. The room was in perfect condition, though, all signs of struggle hidden away and everything fixed by her before leaving for the court. Yet Kira could still picture the scene this room bore the previous night so clearly as if it was happening in front of her again; and along with it, her failure to protect the one she vowed to and the thought kept eating at her conscience.

Her mind constantly kept picking at the ways she could have faced that differently, how she could have made a different stroke, dodged a different way and not given up when she did and could have turned it all around. It was like her thoughts continuously scratching at the same spot until her mind bled. She could not stop them no matter how much it hurt.

The deadly silence and loneliness present in the atmosphere of the room felt suffocating. Kira fell down on the bed as if she was lifeless. Her body ached and her head hurt from when she had knocked it against the floor after being shoved. But none of this compared to how her heart was breaking. She had put off her feelings on hold for the entirety of the day but now that she was alone and without distractions, there was nothing to stop the sadness and despair from welling up.

She turned to her side, that side of the bed was now empty where Gouenji used to be. Less than twenty-four hours ago she was comfortably nestled in his arms, finally getting a taste of comfort after a long struggle, her mind submerged in a drowsy bliss that comes with finally being able to rest your weary self in an unfathomable level of restfulness.

But in a moment, it was brutally snatched away from her and now it seemed like she was lifting the weight of the entire world on her shoulders with no one to give her a helping hand.

She picked up the pillow from Gouenji’s side of the bed and tightly wrapped her arms around it. She closed her eyes before tears could brim in them. She tried to fall asleep but even though she had been utterly exhausted, sleep was nowhere to be found. Her mind constantly went to Gouenji and every time she thought about where he would be or in what condition, her heart shattered over and over again.

She remained awake for the majority of the night but eventually, her tired body gave in and she fell asleep; only to be woken up soon by the rays of sunlight washing over her face indicating the arrival of morning.

Kira got up once again and prepared for the court.
