Chapter 7.

'Ren, are you sure about this?" I quizzically asked while sorting through the endless male suits in a shopping center Ren mentioned near the hotel I was resting in. I was on the phone with him, conversing while at the same time examining myself through the dressing room mirror trying to pick out which suit was more sophisticated to go along with a turtleneck I need more than ever.

"Yes, buy anything you want. Now that I think about it, I never gave you a birthday present." Ren was eating breakfast in his home when he said that. Since the time zones were an hour apart, it was nine o clock over here but only eight back home. Thinking about the distance between us, I guess I could admit I do miss his presence.

He continued to speak, talking about the event that was tonight while trying to take the edge off my shoulders. He knew I was nervous but it didnt stop him from trying. Smiling over his gesture, I checked the price tag for one of the suits I liked only to instantly put it back stunned by the amount.

"Ren, why did you tell me to come here? These suits are expensive!" He laughed over the phone amused by the excitement in my voice.

"I like to spoil the one I love, what's so wrong with that? You never ask for anything Toko, you're so confined, you're in Tokyo enjoy yourself, enjoy your time there, I will send you my credit card through the phone just show it to them."

"Ren, please I.'

"I love you Toko, and I will properly express that to you when you come back here, I will shower you with anything you want, I promise." Halting, I gripped the phone against my ear beginning to feel myself swim within his words.

He always sounds like this when he doesn't mean it, he just wants me to buy the suit. I hate how I know him too well, he did this before when I have projects that need to be completed by a certain due date. Ren isn't conniving, but he is cunning when he wants something. Ren knows he will go above and beyond, even if that includes getting me to comply with him. Rolling my eyes, I put the suit back on the rack looking for something more cheaper and to my taste.

"I know when you're not going to hold yourself accountable to what you say, but that's okay because I know Ren is busy, I'm going to make sure you're not embarrassed by me tonight okay?"

"That's my boy."

"But I will be wearing something less expensive."

"Whatever you want Toko, hey I have to go don't forget to send a photo of your outfit alright? I love you bye."

"O...oh ok...bye." But he hung up before I could even get my words out. He's so busy, I don't remember the last time I talked to him over the phone back home. We always kept it at the office, maybe we're making progress if I can converse with him like this, even if it is only for a few minutes.

"Sir, will you be buying this?" An associate asked, taking my attention away from the phone towards the young lady in front of me.

"Yes, I will, do you also sell turtlenecks here?"

"We do it's over here if you will please follow me." Listening to her abiding words, I followed but my legs stopped working when I noticed someone familiar in the corner of my eye.

Staring out of the front store window, I took notice of Akane and Takuya coming out of a bridal shop across the street from me. My entire body froze; Without a thought, I dropped everything to walk over to the window to properly stare at them. I could sense that she was happy, beyond happy. Holding onto Takuya, she firmly wrapped herself in his arms embracing his body. So, he really did it. He really proposed.
