Annabeth was afraid. The tower was burning, and she had no way to get to Percy. He was everything to her: her life, her love, her passion, her everything. And now he was on one of the high floors of the second tower.

She was panicked even as she called his phone, begging all of the higher beings that existed to let him answer.

He picked up on the fifth ring. "Beth?" his voice came over the receiver, and relief flowed through her at knowing he was still alive. The relief was soon drowned out by the worry and sadness in his tone, the pending end of it all looming closer.

"Percy," she sighed, voice unsteady. "Where are you? Did you get out?"

"No, I haven't," he replied, her emotions running dangerously rampant. "None of us on the upper floors are getting out."

"Wait. Why not?!" she nearly screamed into her phone, even though he could hear her clearly.

He sighed as if exasperated and exhausted. "The second plane hit hard, Beth." he explained, a slight strain in it. "We can't get out even if we wanted to. The tower is unstable, and people-" he hesitated, as if contemplating what to tell her. "People are jumping, Beth. They want to end it quick, not be suffering up here with the rest of us from the oil and fire."

His voice became dull, as his words ran through her mind. People are jumping, she thought, emotion dulled. She would've known this if she was watching the news, seeing as so many people were just screaming obscenities outside while she worried and contacted her boyfriend. It was all too surreal. It couldn't be true.

The only real emotion she felt now was fear. Fear for her love, and fear for what might happen to him.

"No," she whispered into the phone, hardly listening to him anymore. "No, no nononono. Percy you can't."

"I won't," he promised, and she could imagine him running his fingers through his disheveled jet black hair, in that habit he always had. "I'm doing my best to keep everyone away from the edges, and keeping the hope of survival. Most are crying, some are just staring at the walls... they don't know what to do, Beth. I don't know what to do."

Percy was a natural born leader, which was one of the reasons why he accepted a job in the North Tower. He cared about those around him, and was always disgusted by how much war can take from people. Annabeth had no doubt that not knowing what to do was tearing him apart.

Before she could answer him, people outside started shouting and screaming, a baby wailing. Annabeth heard Percy gasp. "Oh, gods no..."

"Percy? What's wrong?"

He paused before answering. "The South Tower just collapsed," he whispered, though she could hear crying and wails from where he was.

The South Tower, so close to her love. "We'll get you out," she said, mostly reassuring herself rather than Percy.

"Beth, watch the news. There's something else happening. I can't tell, but it looks like... check the news, Beth." His voice went from soft to hard, a strained tightness in it as it went grim. So she did as he asked, the blonde grabbing the remote and turning on the television in the living room.

"We don't know what, exactly, as you said, is taking place at the pentagon, but this is very serious, striking at the heart of national government." the voice on the television screen spoke, the tone unreadable as it explained CNN news.

The pentagon. Someone had attacked the two towers, and the pentagon. "Percy," she said, hoping he was still on the phone. "They attacked the Pentagon."

"Oh gods. Annabeth this is serious." She hesitated. He only said her full name when he was serious and focused. This was worse than before. "What else is going on?"

She looked back to the screen to see a reporter pointing at the North Tower on screen, the side of the tower lighting up with another explosion. She heard screaming and horrible noise from the receiver, but this time she forced herself to look and listen to the news. " Here in Manhattan, at at the trade center. We are getting reports of the tower. The second tower, the one more to the south, has ultimately collapsed, we are checking on that. We are also told that the Sears tower in Chicago has been evacuated. I can't tell you if it was for a specific reason..."

Annabeth turned back to the phone. "Percy? Percy!"

"I'm here," he answered after a moment, his voice ragged. "There was another explosion, but it's stable now. What else is happening? Are you alright?"

"I'm worried, Percy. The tower collapsed. There are most likely no survivors. What if the same happens to yours? What if-" she choked on her own words. "What if you don't come home?"

Yes I do know this is short and dramatic, but I only had a class period to do it. He told me it was very professional and adult-like, so I chose to put it up. I will make a story out of this, but I just wanted to show my English work that I actually just turned in today. I hope I get an A( he's probably going to give me it anyways, he loves it).

Actually he freaked out when I told him I've been writing since I was seven, and now he thinks I'm a legend. Oh well, I'm already used to it(yes I am humble and that wasn't sarcasm. I make everything look like its a small thing).

I hope you guys like it, and if so I will write more off of it. Don't forget the survivors of 9/11.
