Adeline Santiago's POV

My eyes snap open and pain shoots through my eyes and my skull, making me wince.

Where the hell am I?

I try to sit up and pain soars through my body, particularly my spine, making me whimper.

I turn my neck and I see Matéo right in front of me. He lays his head on my thighs, fast asleep, holding my hand.

His lips are slightly parted so he can breath and I don't think that I have seen him look so disheveled in my life.

His hair is all over the place and even though he is asleep, I can tell that he has been crying a lot.

His eyes are slightly swollen and red.

I force myself to sit up despite the pain and I reach my hand out and stroke his face and hair.

"Matéo" I croak.

His eyes flutter open and he sits up to look at me.

"Amore" He says. His voice is raspy from the sleep and his lip stretch into a relived smile.

"You're awake" He says.

I nod.

"How long was I out?" I ask him.

"Nearly two days" he tells me.

My eyes widen.

"Woah, the kids must be so worried!" I exclaim.

"We all were" He tells me.

"What happened?" I ask, holding my hand to my forehead in a futile attempt to hold back the headache.

He gets up and pours me a glass of water, before handing it to me.

I gulp it down.

"I was going to ask you the same thing actually..." he says.

I think back to the most recent events and then nearly crush the glass in my hand.

Jerome.

He has been blatantly lying to me my whole life along with the rest of my 'family'.

I tell Matéo everything.

How as it turns out, Jerome has been my dad this whole time and how he broke it to me.

I tell him how I came home sore from all the crying and decided to take some medicine to numb the pain of the headache that was brewing.

"My vision was blurred. I- I don't know how much I took" I stammer.

I can feel myself on the brink of tears again.

Matéo stands up and sits with me on the bed.

He wraps his arms around me gently and kisses my face.

"Don't cry baby... It's not your fault at all amore" He says.

I sniffle and bury my face in his neck.

"So, you're not mad?" I ask.

He chuckles.

"No, baby I'm not mad at you" he says.

"I love you Matty" I say.

"I love you too Ade" he responds.

Matéo Santiago's POV

I spent about 10 minuets just cuddling with my wife.

She reaches up her hand and runs it through my hair.

"You need a haircut" she tells me, twirling her fingers in it.

"Soon" I yawn.

I still feel a bit groggy from the sleep.

Suddenly a doctor walks in to the room.

"Ah, you're both up, how are you feeling Mrs Santiago?" He asks her.

She gives him a small sigh.

"A little sore" she admits.

"But nothing I can't handle."

He writes something down on his clipboard.

"Mr Santiago, a word?" He asks.

I nod.

"Sure" I respond.

I step out of the room with him and close the door behind us.

"Everything alright doc?" I ask.

He nods.

"You're both very lucky you were there with each other at the same time" he says.

"She took quite a knock to the head when she fainted " He says.

"And the blood?" I ask.

"Well, there was a bit of alcohol in her system and the fibres of glass were lined with ethanol (basic alcohol) so I would have thought that maybe she dropped the glass and then maybe cut herself collecting it" He says.

"And you made that prediction how?" I ask, suspiciously.

"Sir, her palms and fingers were covered in shards of a type of glass that has some very very strong fibres." He says.
"The fact that only her hands were effected by the glass could mean one of two things. Either my first theory, where she accidentally dropped it and proceeded to collect it..."

"Or?" I ask.

"Or, she crushed the bottle with her bare hands, before she fainted" he shrugs.

I nod.
"Anything else I need to know?" I ask.
He shakes his head.

"Just that they are very lucky to be alive at her current emotional state" the doctor says with a smile.

I chuckle.

"I think you mean 'she' I say correcting the doctor.

He shakes his head slowly, then his eyes light up with amusement and recognition.

"Oh... You didn't know?" He asks.

"Your wife is 6 weeks pregnant, Mr Santiago" he informs me.

My mouth goes dry.

Oh my God!

We're having another baby?!

"How the fuck did this happen?" I mutter to myself after the doctor is gone.

"How?"
