VI | VIOLET

Popularity: 'the state or condition of being liked, admired, or supported by many people....' Yeah, that definition right there didn't describe me one bit at all. Mostly because throughout my life, I decided being unseen by people was what I preferred to do. No wonder Grandma hated me...

"Hey guys this is Violetta my girlfriend and her friend--" Reece informed, looking to Veronica, not knowing her name.

"Oh Veronica or Ronnie is fine," Ronnie said happily. She was indeed very ecstatic to be invited to this table, she was practically shaking in anticipation. They all smiled, saying 'hi', greeting us both. I was only thankful Brooke and her girls weren't there, I wouldn't have been emotionally ready for their insults.

The table in front of us consisted of jocks, who played football, basketball and other 'manly' sports, along with cheerleaders and the other few popular kids. It was hard to get in their friendship group.

We sat down as Reece wrapped his arm around me, hugging me close, taking the time to look down at me and smile sweetly. I smiled back to be polite and was about to eat my food when Reece suddenly spoke. "Oh, I don't even know why I brought your tray for you," I gave him a confused look as he snapped his fingers. Lunch ladies immediately flocked over, taking mine and Veronica's food, replacing it with steak, mash potatoes and peas - not forgetting some red nonalcoholic wine.

"What the fuck," Ronnie said in awe and surprise, the table laughed and chuckled at her.

"You guys are popular now, which means you're basically royalty," one of the cheerleaders grinned, her voice high and girly. All I knew about her, was that her name was Jessica. She had dark chocolate skin with curly black hair.

Veronica began to eat, obviously forgetting she was still on an 'only eating greens for a month diet,' and began talking to some guys, most of the guys which I'm sure she had already slept with. I looked down at my food, the smell made my mouth water, but for some reason, I felt highly uncomfortable eating in front of these people that I didn't even know. Though I still managed to take small bites of my food while being under watchful eyes. It was truly nerve-wracking.

Sometimes I wondered why Chase and Ronnie even hung out with me in the first place? Beside me, they had their other more popular friends as well. I knew they hung out with me because truly, the three of us have been best friends for such a long time, but often I couldn't help but feel I was a pity to hang out with. I mean, Chase is an amazing football player, which automatically made him popular and Ronnie had amazing fashion sense, heck, hers was even better than Brooke's, plus so many girls always asked Veronica for fashion tips and tips in beauty instead of others. So why would a jock and a fashion queen, waste their time on a nobody like me?

Oh my God. I was the duff of the group, I was the designated ugly fat friend, or more so, designated ugly skinny friend in the group. Ugh, The Duff movie was so right.

I would think of this from time to time and I just couldn't help but think how their lives would have been so much better if I wasn't in the picture. I didn't like to party, do drugs, have sex and so many of the things they liked to do. I somewhat knew I was a burden to carry. Gosh, why am I such a boring person?

"Violetta, you okay?" I turned to face a curious Ronnie looking at me. Lunch would soon be over in fifteen minutes, I nodded and smiled.

"Just thinking about homework." I easily lied and she playfully rolled her eyes at me.
