__________
The sun was shining down on her perfectly. The glow behind her made it seem like she was an angel and as Diego watched her small hand bring the blunt to her perfectly plumped lips, he knew for a fact that she was everything he could ever hope for. She was in fact, an angel. His angel. The way her long black hair cascaded down to her chest and the way she looked with no make up evident on her face was an image that burned into Diego's mind. How could someone be so perfect?
Knee Socks by the Arctic Monkeys was playing on low and Diego just couldn't rip his attention away from Penelope."Take a picture D, it'll last longer." Penelope teased as she handed him the blunt, a small blush was clear on her face and Diego couldn't help the smile that fought its way onto his face, he had been caught staring. He couldn't help it, the words that Alicia had said to him were repeating in the back of his head. She was right, Diego couldn't let Penelope go. He had tried before and all he had accomplished was pushing her off to Diggy. Stupid Diggy. The night of Leo's birthday party when Diego had shown up out of nowhere replayed in the back of his head. He couldn't believe that Diggy had the audacity to raise his hand at Penelope. The only thing Diego could think of was, how many times had he done it before?
There was no point on thinking about it anymore, Diggy was out of the picture. Diego couldn't help but thank whoever was up above, he had gotten a second chance to fix everything. With a smirk on his face he pulled out his phone, taking a picture of her. A small gasp left Penelope's mouth, she wasn't expecting him to actually take a picture.
"You said to take a picture, I did just that." Diego replied back as he took one last glance at his screen, making sure to put his phone away before Penelope could protest, Diego had changed the subject. "How's Grace been?" He asked as he took a long drag. Penelope let out a small sigh as she shrugged her shoulders. Diego knew he had to no right to ask but he couldn't help but feel bad. Penelope had been right, he could've saved Grace from all the hurt.
"She's.. hanging in there. She's still pretty hurt, I mean who wouldn't be? Ya know?" Moving a strand of hair away from her face, Penelope's facial expression told Diego everything he needed to know, Grace wasn't okay. "She's leaving though, going to spend a few weeks or so in Australia." The information was news to Diego, Marcus had been bugging him to find out what was going on with Grace, this information wouldn't make its way to Marcus though, Diego would make sure of it. The thought of the idiot made Diego think about Isabella, he knew he needed to text her soon and see how she was doing.
"Marcus won't man up and see his kid, Isabella says she can handle it all on her own, I worry about her though." Diego confessed, the comfort Penelope brought him was like old times when they would sit around and just talk about everything that was going on.
"Can she handle it?" Penelope asked, it was a genuine question. She could tell how much Isabella meant to Diego, even if something shitty had happen between Isabella, Marcus and Grace. It wouldn't stop her from being there for Diego. She wasn't going to lose him all over again. Diego let out a deep breath he didn't even know he was holding in. "I honestly don't know." He whispered. Silence overtook both of them as they just stared off into space. The talk about what they were still hadn't been spoken but neither of them wanted to ruin what they were slowly building again. Diego was too scared. She could easily say she wanted nothing to do with him and Diego didn't know what he'd do with himself if it was true. He needed time with her, it was the only way he could see what she wanted.
"I think we need to get away from all this bullshit, what do you say?" Diego quickly took another hit, trying to distract himself from even looking at Penelope, the idea was spontaneous and he wasn't sure she'd up for it. He had to try to convince her though. "We're too caught up in drama that doesn't even involve us." Smoke escapes his mouth as he let some of the ash from the blunt hit the floor. The time seemed to go by slowly as he waited for Penelope to give him some kind of reply. The look on her face gave him a clear idea that she was deep in thought of his idea. Standing up, Penelope did a small stretch as she walked over to Diego. They weren't too far from each other, the balcony of her apartment gave him enough space though.
Sitting on his lap Penelope gave him a smirk as she ran her fingers through his hair. "Let's do it."
