Jeremy spotted her at the same time. He quickly reacted by grabbing my wrist and jumped right in pulling me with— trailing behind him.
"All right everyone, give my boy some room to breathe!" He cut through everyone that had gathered and even walked right through Jasmine and Oliver, causing the distance between them to widen as he stood facing Oliver giving Jasmine his back.
"Alright bro, I brought your girl back— call off the snipers," he let out a chuckle. Those long distance stares where burning a hole right through my skull even in that distance." Jeremy continued to ramble. As I came up to Oliver he leaned in and kissed me on my forehead.
"Hey, babe!" He followed with a long swig from a beer bottle that came up to meet his lips.
In the background, I heard Jeremy's voice.
"Oh, hey Jas—mine. Who invited you?— I mean when did you get here?" Amy and some of the girls giggled in the background. I could see the table next to Oliver had a collection of empty shooters and beer bottles, and many bottle caps surrounded his feet. I wondered how many of those were his casualties. I'd guess he'd been through a few, noticing his eyes were a dark shade of pink leaning towards red. He also seemed to not need to hold on to Amy anymore, as she stood to the side of him. I went to reach for his hand and the grip wasn't there.
"Babe— I'm not feeling too well, do you mind if we get going soon?" I asked him as his newly discovered desire lingered in my mind and now Jasmine's presence added to upset me. The words just came out without a thought about what I actually said but part of me realized if I couldn't get him to stop drinking, leaving would be the best way to help him stop.
"Sure babe— will leave soon!" His short answer was followed by the bottle meeting his lips again. As much as I wasn't thrilled to see Jasmine— I honestly never had anything against the girl. It was more what she and her friends stood for. The whole cheerleaders and the popular crowd that looked down on the rest of us. She was one of the creators of the 'the nobody club,' and the way she looked at me as I was approaching I could tell the cattiness was still very much alive. I just continued to ignore her like she wasn't even there and for the most part she did the same, except for the occasional dirty look she would throw in my direction. Amy seemed to notice because she released the word 'tramp' under her breath towards her. I waited for a while and figured Oliver would start to say his goodbyes, but the goodbyes never came. We stayed well into the night. The drinks kept coming and he kept drinking. The look on Amy's face seemed concerned as well. When hard liquor came up and was offered to him she jumped in most times and would take them from his hand as if she wanted the drinks. She managed to take a couple out of his hand. For the most part, I saw her basically do a sleight of hand passing them off to Jeremy who caught on pretty quickly making sure no one noticed. I even saw her spill a couple behind her. I was thankful she was here.
"Aria— try again!" She leaned in and whispered in my ear. "Try and get him out of here." The alcohol was flowing faster and the crowd was getting a lot rowdier. A small fight had broken out by the basketball courts, that was caught and broken up quickly. It seemed that it could easily happen again.
"Oliver, I'm done— let's go! I said showing him I wasn't asking I was ready to leave.
Jasmine caught wind of what we were trying to achieve, her words broke over mine.
"HEY EVERYONE!" She called out getting the attention of everyone around us, meanwhile staring at me directly. "Let's all raise a toast, here's to our Ollie coming home." She reached over and handed him a shot. He quickly reached out and as the crowd cheered he swallowed it.
"Are you done?" I asked firmly looking at him dead in the eyes which were bloodshot red by this point. "I'm leaving!" I stated firmly.
"You can go Aria— I'll take him home! I heard from behind me, in a mocking tone. The voice poked at me like needles. I turned in her direction in one quick reaction.
