when you're gone

THE OCEAN WATER CRASHED AGAINST THE ROCKS, letting off a load crack. The waves were tall and harsh, a strong breeze sending ripples across the water, the smell of salt water lingering in the air.

Clarke Williamson stood atop of a cliff, her blue satin dress blowing softly in the wind. Her eyes gazed solely at the horizon before her, the sun was beginning to set leaving an orange, pink tint in the clear sky. Her brown eyes turned caramel as the remaining hour of the afternoon shone brightly before her, her pink lips pulled into a sad smile.

Her hands gently cradled her swollen belly, it was round and beautiful to her, a true miracle — her miracle. She may not have known the life growing inside of her quite yet, but she already loved her child. A child whom she would love unconditionally, a child she would protect with all her life, a child she would care for no matter what.

Her mind was occupied with one thing - as much as she wished it wasn't - and that was him. It was unfair. Why couldn't she just admire the beauty surrounding her? Why in everything she saw did she have to see him? The deep blue ocean crashing against the shore - the same deep blue as those eyes of his. Or the sand that still stuck to her feet from her walk along the beach moments previously - the same shade as his soft hair that blew in the sea breeze as he sailed away, never to be seen again.

Clarke smiled a sad smile, stroking her belly, softly. "When you're gone." She hummed to the growing life inside her, whom she loved with more than she could ever love any man - even him. "How can I even try to go on?"

Her gaze flickered once more to the glowing sky in front of her, "When you're gone." She sang delicately, her voice; a blessing to the ears of the world. "Though I try, how can I carry on?"

A laboured breath left her lips, as her dark hair danced in the light breeze atop of the cliff. The water below shone as it caught frequent rays of the dying sun.

Clarke glanced at the shimmering white pearl ring resident on her right hand; white and pure. Just like the innocence and joy of the gift within her; her very own pearl.

AUTHORS NOTE

So here's the prologue, Kat and I sincerely hope you like it. This was an idea we came up with together, and decided on writing well, together. We're super excited to be able to work with one another and take our beloved characters on their journey. We hope you'll like them just as much as we do. Happy readings
— LAUREN
