"Mhm" I said mischievously smiling.

"Olivia whatever you're thinking, don't do it" Shayne pleaded.

"Courtney!" I called her over.

Courtney picked her head up and saw me waving her over. She smiled and started walking towards us.

"I hate you" Shayne whispered to me before she arrived.

"Hi!" Courtney said with a big bright smile.

"Hi" I said smiling.

"Hey" Shayne said rubbing the back of his neck.

"How are you guys doing?" She asked.

"I'm fine, how are you doing Shayne?" I said turning to him and winking.

"Uhh I'm good thanks" He stuttered out.

"My mom forced me to come to the party" Courtney said.

"Me too!" I said.

"What about you Shayne? What are you doing here?" Courtney asked.

"My friend asked me, I mean Olivia asked me to come" He said nervously.

"Aww it's always great to have a friend at a party" Courtney said smiling.

"Yeah I suppose so, you bring any friends?" I asked her.

"Yeah! I somehow managed to convince my boyfriend Keith to come" She said.

"Oh.. that's good.. I guess" Shayne said his gaze falling.

"Say, Courtney I have to talk to Shayne for a minute if you'll excuse us" I said noticing his demeanor change.

"Okay! I'll see you guys later, I'll be with Keith if you need me" She said turning away.

I waved goodbye before gripping Shayne's arm. His face was flush with disappointment. Dragging him by his arm I pulled him upstairs. I couldn't bring him to my room because my mom would find me and lecture me again. So instead I pulled him into the guest room and onto the balcony. The lights and city below us were lit up beautifully in the nighttime.

"Shayne, you alright?" I asked him seeing his drooping face.

"I'm fine" He said.

"C'mon Shayne, I know you" I said.

He looked up and into my eyes. His piercing blue eyes always got me flushed.

"I guess... I guess I'm just disappointed ya know?" He said.

"It's not your fault Shayne, we didn't know she had a boyfriend" I said trying to make him feel better.

"No it's not that it's ..." He said before stopping and gazing out at the city.

"It's what?" I asked.

"It's just... That's the second girl that I couldn't be with because of circumstances" He said.

"The second?" I said confused.

As long as I'd known Shayne, he had never mentioned liking anybody else besides Courtney as of recently. In all of our lengthy chats he never brought it up. He turned back and looked at me.

"Yeah" He said.

"Who uh, who was the first?" I asked trying to get him to open up.

"It was... It's... It's you Olivia" He said quietly.

"Me?" I say shocked.

"It's always been you" Shayne said.

"Really?" I said not believing my ears.

"I've had this feeling ever since I met you, I always wanted to be more than friends but I knew it would break our strong friendship bond" He said.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked.

"Because, I knew you would reject me and things would become awkward like right now" Shayne said.

"I love our friendship and didn't want something to erase it, so I started to like Courtney because she wasn't my amazing best friend" He said glumly.

"Shayne-" I started to say.

"I know, I know, I shouldn't have said it, things will probably never be the same now" He said disappointed.

"Shayne shut up!" I said forcefully.

"Um ok" He said stunned.

"Just.. just listen to me okay?" I asked.

"Ok" Shayne said.

"You were right, we can't go back to the old us, and I don't want to" I said.

"You don't?" He asked confused.

"Shayne I said listen to me" I said annoyed.

"My bad" He said and stood quietly.

"I don't want to go back to the old us, I want us to move forward in a new direction" I said.

"A new direction?" He asked still confused.

"Oh my god Shayne" I said.

"Sorry I'll try to be qui-" He started to say.

I grabbed his face with my hands on his cheeks and smashed my lips onto his. It was just me kissing him until he started kissing me back. I pulled apart for breath and waited for his response.

"Woah" He said.

"Woah?" I said a little disappointed.

"Woah" He repeated this time smiling.

"What does woah mean?" I asked impatiently.

"This is what woah means" He said and pulled me close.

He kissed me again and put his hand on my back. One of my hands was wrapped around his back and the other was messing up his hair. He pulled away and smiled.

"Woah" I said.

"Haha you know now?" Shayne said.

"Yeah, I know what woah means" I said smiling back.

He grabbed my hands and placed them in his palms. We stared into each other's eyes.

"You wanna get out of here?" He asked.

"I would love to" I said.

"Great" Shayne said.

We walked hand in hand back downstairs and through the crowded party. He guided me to his car and opened the door.

"Olivia what do you think you're doing? I told my friend Greg that you would meet him and his wife" My mom's voice said.

"Sorry, tell Greg that I'll be a little late" I said getting in the passenger side.

"Hey Ms. Sui, it was nice seeing you!" Shayne said opening his door.

"Shayne Topp, you tell my daughter to get out of that car right now" She said.

"Of course! I'll let her know next time I see her" Shayne said getting into the driver's seat and closing his door.

"Olivia!" I heard my mom call after me as Shayne started the car.

"You ready?" Shayne said looking at me.

"I'm ready" I said putting my hand on his.

Shayne pulled out of the driveway and we drove off into the night. I knew my mother would be angry with me tommorow morning but I didn't care. Tonight was the start of something new between me and Shayne. Something we had both wanted for a while. I looked over at him and interlocked my fingers with his. This was going to be a fun night.
