Shayne's POV
It had been one week since I had told Courtney about her appointment, and we had spent every possible minute together. We watched movies together, went out together, practically lived together... I had even taken her to meet everyone at Smosh. They all seemed to really like her, and she was surprised at how no one questioned her about her silence.
Today was the day of the operation. The appointment was first, but that was just simple procedures such as swab tests and health checks ensuring Courtney could be put under anaesthetic.
We arrived at the hospital together fairly early in the morning. Courtney was clinging onto my hand tightly as we walked in. We told the receptionist who we were and they instructed us to have a seat. It was a different woman to whom I had spoken to before. As we sat down Courtney looked at me nervously, and I kissed her gently on the lips.
Me - You ok?
She pulled out her notepad yet again and began writing. The ink spilled beautifully over the page as Courtney connected her letters. She passed me the note.
Please don't leave me Shayne. Don't do what my family did. I can't lose you.
I read the note and once I was done I smiled slightly, before folding it carefully and placing it in my pocket. I held Courtney's hands tightly.
Me - I will never leave you, I promise.
Courtney smiled and hugged me tightly.
Me - Everything's gonna be fine. When you wake up I will be right there, clinging onto your hand. I swear.
Courtney's grip on my body tightened and I smiled. Soon her name was called by a doctor and so the two of us entered the room. He asked various questions such as whether Courtney was on any medication, how long she had been silent for et cetera et cetera. Once that was finished Courtney was informed she could make her way over to the operations ward, and so we thanked the doctor before heading over there. Courtney got changed into the suitable medical robes, and she laid down on the bed. I kissed her before they wheeled her into the anaesthetic room, which I wasn't allowed to go in. I held Courtney's bag in which she had stuffed all of her clothes, and when I saw her again she was out cold. I smiled at her peaceful face, but then she was taken into the operations unit. The surgery was fairly quick and simple, the longest part would be having to wait for her to wake up, and so I went to get a coffee and I sat in the waiting room for a couple of hours, just scrolling through stuff on my phone. I read through all of Courtney's texts, and finally, after two and a half hours, she was awake.
The doctor led me to Courtney's room and I followed swiftly, anxious to see if she was ok. I pushed open the large wooden door, and there she was. She looked incredibly tired, so I quietly pulled a chair over so as not to startle her. I held her hand tightly and kissed her.
Me - Hey Courtney.
Her head dropped to the side so she could look at me, and she smiled sleepily.
Me - I told you you'd be ok. You're so strong babe, I'm so proud of you. I love you.
And then, in an almost inaudible, raspy voice, she said the words:
Courtney - I love you too.
