POV: Jeff
"Hi! You must be Kurt— I'm Jeff, your new roommate!"
He looks startled at my introduction. Damn it, did I scare him already?
"Oh, sorry, some people— well, everyone— say I come on too strong. I can't help it, I'm enthusiastic! And now I'm super excited that I'm getting a new roommate, it's been exceptionally boring except when Nick visits, but sadly I'm still alone most of the time— he can't stay after curfew, school rules with people who are dating— crap, am I rambling? I tend to do that when I get excited."
He looked taken aback with my excessive talking. It was a problem, I know.
"Well anyway, I'll show you up to our dorm."
I start walking and explaining which classroom is which on the way as we walk to the dorm. I notice his eyes darting everywhere as we walk. I'm caught between being amused and worried, because he has spotless porcelain skin, and acts like porcelain too, as if he could shatter at any given moment. Before I know it, we're there— Room 13.
"Well, here we are. You have your own key in the packet the Headmaster gave you— she's nice, isn't she?— and I have one in case you lock yours in the room." He gives a small chuckle at this.
"What, it happens!" I say. "You'd be surprised at how often people lock their keys in their rooms. Especially with Wes and David sharing— David locks his key in his room all the time and Wes constantly has to unlock it. I'm surprised he hasn't taken his gavel to David's head yet."
Kurt looks rather taken aback and frightened.
"Oh, he's the captain of the Warblers so he has his gavel with him at all times. I swear, it's like it's his child or something," I say, rolling my eyes. "Can you sing? We need some fresh faces for the Warblers— glee club, you know."
Oh my god, Jeff, he doesn't even talk, why did you ask that?
He shakes his head violently. "Oh, bummer," I say, not wanting to make him uncomfortable— although it looks as though it's too late for that.
"Okay, so the bed on the left is yours, and the bathroom is over there— you can put your stuff in there. And these are the wardrobes, yours is the one on the left, again," I explain.
I watch as his jaw drops, looking at the room. I laugh quietly at his reaction.
"Yeah, I was surprised at how large this dorms are when I first came here too. Well, do you need help unpacking? It could go faster that way," I say, not wanting to miss lunch. I feel bad for abandoning Nick, but hey, I am going to live with this guy for quite a while. "Oh, and there won't be too many visitors and if there are any, they'll knock. Except Nick, you know, my boyfriend, because I pretended I lost my key to get a spare to give it to him. Don't tell anyone though," I add.
He gives me a slightly startled look. "You're gay?" he asks, in a voice so high and so quiet I can barely hear it.
"Yeah, will that be a problem?" I ask, a touch of defensiveness in my tone. If he's homophobic, I will demand a new roommate. I don't 'agree to disagree' when they're disrespecting my existence.
To my surprise and relief, he shakes his head violently, as if that's the worst concept ever. "No," he adds, voice hardly above a whisper.
"Okay!" I say, back to my cheerful self. "I have a feeling we will get along just fine, if not become great friends!" He smiles softly at this. "So, let's unpack!"
He walks over to his suitcase and unzips it, quickly grabbing the bag on top. I find this kinda suspicious, but hey, I'm sure he has a reason. "Okay, do you want me to hang up your uniforms and such?" I ask. He nods hesitantly.
