"Gunshots?! Oh god." You cried. You could feel your skin start to pale as you looked at Jughead. You peaked out of the window and saw that people were starting to run from the house. You backed away from the curtain and screamed as you heard something slam into the trailer.
"Get away from the windows." He said, quickly pulling you back. You glanced at Jellybean, who was still sound asleep. Once again the sound of gunshots rang out, and you felt Jughead tighten his protective grip around you.
"What are we going to do? Do you think it's your dad?" You asked, your voice close to hysteria.
"Y/n, calm down please. If you freak out, then I'll freak out, which will wake up Jellybean and she'll start to freak out too. Then none of us will be able to think." He said. He maneuvered himself so that he could engulf you in a comforting hug. You leaned back into him and allowed him to wrap his arms around you. Slowly, but surely, you calmed down and began to think.
"We can't leave now, not when we know they're in trouble." You said. "We have to save them."
"I know." Jughead said. You were surprised to hear that there was no fear in his voice. "You stay here with Jellybean okay? If I'm not back in the next thirty minutes, call the police."
"What? No! I'm coming with you!" You said.
"No." Jughead said firmly. "You're not. If it's my father in there, then it's me he wants. I can use that to my advantage, but he wont hesitate to hurt you."
"But Jughead, -"
"Please, just listen to me okay? If my dad hurt you, I'd never be able to live with myself. Right now you and Jellybean are my main concern. There's no one else around to watch her and she can't be here by herself. So please, will you do this for me?" He asked.
You drew in a shaky breath and nodded. "What are you going to do?"
He looked at you for a split second and sighed. "I'll improvise."
He stood up and began to walk towards the trailer door.
"Wait!" You said, before standing up and opening a cupboard. "Here."
You quickly handed him a knife and a taser. He stared at you questioningly and you shrugged sheepishly.
"I brought them from home, just in case something happened." You admitted. "I think they can come in handy."
"Bringing a knife to a gunfight." He smirked casually. You had no idea why he was acting so calm, but you knew better than to ask.
"Please be careful Jughead." You said, before pulling him into a bone crushing hug. He gasped a little, and you quickly remembered his injuries.
"I will." He said, before planting a quick kiss on your lips. "I know what to do, and I'll be back before you know it."
"Okay. I'll protect Jellybean." You assured him. "And if you're not back at exactly 11:30, I'm calling the police."
He nodded and looked down at you. It was the first time he had showed any emotions since the gunshots. For a quick second, unmistakable sadness flashed through his eyes as he stared down at you, and it made you uneasy. He took in a deep breath and shot you a reassuring smile before opening the door and stepping out. He quickly closed the door behind him. You silently tipped toed over to the curtain and watched as Jughead stealthily crept behind the house, and disappeared.
Once he was gone, your anxiety shot through the roof.
What if something terrible happened to him?
