Maxon's POV

I watch as the lights and camera guys set up the stage for the report once again. Them yelling to each other to angle one light more to the right or left, and the camera guy complaining because of the glare.

Once the stage is all set up though it is easy sailing from there. I walk onto the stage and take my seat by my mother and Kriss on my opposite side. Kriss reaches for my hand and I pull away and lean towards my mom like I have something to say. I don't.

I look out into the audience and a pair of bright blue eyes pop out at me. America. She's all I think about. She gives me a thumbs up and smiles at me. Oh, that smile of hers... it makes me all tingly and electric inside.

"Good luck!!" She mouths and smiles again.

"Thanks." I say back and smile. I fan myself because under the lights it can get pretty hot.

"Are you Okay Maxon?" Kriss asks and I look at her. All I can see is worry and concern in her face. But I know it's fake.

"Live in five... four... three... two... one... and we are live!" The camera man says from behind the camera.

I bet America knows his name. Of course she would. She knows everyone by name here in the palace.

"Hello! Welcome to another great Report!" Gavril says with a big fake smile on his face. Don't get me wrong he's a great dude. "Today we have some very important announcements! First and most importantly, the king will be stepping down as king and will hand off his crown to his son, Prince Maxon!" Gavril says and the camera points to my father and then to me.

I smile automatically like I always do. There are cheers in the audience and I look out to find America again. I see her clapping and smiling. It's not a big smile, just a small one.

"After a week of being King, Prince Maxon will be choosing his queen. Well, we already know who that will be, right Maxon?" The camera stays on me and I smile and take Kriss's hand and kiss it. Just for the looks.

The camera zooms out so both Kriss and I are in the frame. More cheers erupt from the audience. Kriss squeezes my hand and after the camera is off of us I pull my hand away.

(Coronation day)

I pull on my black suit and butlers help me put on all my sashes needed to complete the ceremony. The sashes weigh more than ten pounds and so it makes me want to slouch, but I make sure to hold my head up tall.

You will be an amazing King someday.

America's words echo through my head. I will be an amazing king someday, and that will be because of you. I smile and look in the mirror. My hair is gelled back and my eyes shine bright. Time to become king.

Father stepped down yesterday and so we had a full 24 hours without a king. It would have been the perfect time for a rebel attack, but nothing happened thankfully.

I make my way down to the throne room. I can do this.

"You CAN do this!" A voice behind me says and I turn and see America. She is dressed in an emerald green dress that brings out the color of her eyes and hair. It was like her hair was setting the green on fire like grass and then the water was putting it out all at the same time. It was beautiful.

"Sorry. You were thinking out load." She explains and then smiles at me. We walk the same pace to the throne room together. Just now slower.

"Figures. I do that when I'm not thinking. When I am nervous I don't think." I say and we both laugh a little. It was a little awkward between us. I didn't know where we stood. Did she still like me, like more than friends? Was she over me? More importantly, am I over her? Do I love her? Would I want her to be my queen?

Of course I would want her to be my queen. The thing is, dad would not approve. I don't know how I would manage that though. There is a law that Royals can not divorce.

"So you excited to become king?"

"Depends on what you mean by excited."

"There is only one kind of excited, I think."

"Well I'm nervous, maybe not excited, but I'll manage."

"You always do..." She says and looks at me. Her blue eyes sparkling.

"You still think I'll be a good king?" I ask turning to face her.

"No." She said bluntly. I felt like a knife was piercing through my heart.

"What-"

America smiles and laughs. "You'll be an amazing king. You will respect everyone and you- hopefully- will love and support everyone equally and think of them as equals to you as well." She smiles.

I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding. "Oh, good. I thought you lost faith in me."

"Lose faith in you, Maxon? Never." She says and pulls me into a hug. She whispers good luck in my ear and tells me I'm going to do great. And that is just what I need to survive this momentous occasion.

America walks through the entry way to the throne room and gets a seat up front. Just where I want her. Close to me.

An hour passes and I'm still waiting in a little room that we have behind the stage of the throne room. People keep messing with my hair and clothes making it so I'm flawless.

"Ladies and gentleman please give it up for your future king, Maxon Calix Scheave." Garvil says through a microphone and that is my cue. I step out of the doorway and through the curtains. The audience applauses and all eyes are on me. Only my eyes are on only one person with flaming red hair and bright blue eyes.

What do you think? Each time I add a chapter I feel like I am doing less and less dialogue between the characters. If you guys want more I'll try and add more. What do you think about the law about divorce? What will Maxon do? Okay so I just want to tell you guys that I have figured out what will be happening and the overview of the rest of the story. I have events and everything planned out!! But don't let that stop you from suggesting things. Please please comment I always try to reply if I have time!! Also please vote!!

Next time I'll post will be 7/10/18

Spoiler: the coronation continues.
