After a long day of classes and lab, as Maya left campus she noticed Willow and Jayde waiting for her. Clad in oversized hoodies and sunglasses, Maya knew that her roommates were fighting monster hangovers right now.
"You guys look amazing" Maya laughed as she approached her roommates. They didn't even bother trying to hide the fact they were hungover. Jayde and Willow usually went very hard every time they went out, leaving Maya to take care of them. While they went hard, Willow and Jayde couldn't hold their liquor for the life of them. Maya was always the one that had the last laugh. She knew her limits and knew when it was time to call it a night.
"You're so loud, you're practically screaming" Willow held her head in her hand.
"I told you to stop, but instead you start chugging a bottle of champagne" Jayde rolled her eyes. "We wanted to see if you wanted to get some lunch."
"Yeah, I'm done right now anyways. We just need to pick up my paycheck first cause rent is due in two weeks."
"Don't remind me" Willow leaned against her car.
"I take it the job hunt isn't going well?" Willow shook her head, annoyed. She previously worked at as a receptionist at a local office in Oakland but got laid off a few months ago. While she had money in her savings to get her by, Willow needs a job because she has to carry her weight.
"Well, let's go get some food and we'll figure the rest out later" Jayde wrapped an arm around Willow.
"I know this great Pho place downtown" Maya suggested.
"Perfect" Willow breathed out as they got into her car.
After getting Maya's paycheck from Grand, the girls headed to a small Vietnamese restaurant in Union Square. From the nights of partying and raging, Maya has picked up some perfect hangover cures.
"So, did you guys have fun last night?" Maya sipped on her soup.
"Way too much fun" Jayde breathed out.
"I don't get how you can work at a bar and not get drunk" Willow rationalized.
"Cause it's my job to make drinks, not get drunk. Plus I don't have enough money to show up to class hungover, I'm not about that life" Maya chuckled as she dropped more mint in her Pho. Maya was about her business and she couldn't afford to get distracted.
"You are seriously my spirit animal" Jayde smiled. Some people would rather take the easy route to success than put in the work to get there. People would take the 15 minutes of fame than stability hard work can give them. Not Maya. Her hustle is what people admire about her, but also intimidates people. Nowadays, people with goals and motivation are scary. It's even more terrifying when it's a woman with goals and motivation.
"You don't have to tell me twice" Maya laughed, sipping on her water. "I saw you gettin' it with the DJ. You get his number?" Maya turned to Willow.
