Abbi's POV
When I get to the sign-in table, a woman handed me my nametag, checked my paperwork and gear, and gave me my number. My number is 13, my lucky number. Then I made my wa to the place we would board the plane as I started to put on my gear. I had to wait for about 20 minutes. I started texing my mom to pass the time.
*Soooooooo bored! Why won't it start already!*
*You just have to patient, honey!* Mom texted back.
*That is hard!* I complained.
*Do you want me to tell you a joke?* Mom asked. Oh, no! Not the jokes!
*No Mom. It's fi-*
*Why did the pig walk into the kitchen?*
*Ugh! Why?* I answered.
*Because it felt like Bacon!* (It means baking without saying the g. As in bakin' bread!)
*No, Mom! Just No!*
*Okay? Why did the chicken cross the road?*
*Really!? That is the oldest joke in the book!*
*To show the possum it could be done! Haha!* (Possums usually can't cross the road without getting hit!)
The judges interrupted our conversation! Thank God! Who knows what other bad jokes she knows! i texted Mom, *It is time, I have to go! Wish me luck!*
*Okay, Good luck!*
*Thanks! Luv you!* I texted as I put my phone away in the locker they gave us to hold our clothes. It was about 8:20 when they started letting us board the plane. At 8:30, the first person jumped. I got comfortable because I am the last person to jump. I watched as the first person jumped, then the second, third, fourth, fifth. I tried to see if they messed up and if I did see, I made a mental note not to do that when it is my turn. Soon, I was being called for my turn. (Sounds like the calling of the tributes to the private training sessions in the Hunger Games! lol)
“Take your time.” The judge assured me. “Jump whenever you are ready."
I took a deep breath, closed my eyes to focus, and then opened them and jumped. I could feel the wind in my face. I made sure to keep the Belly Slam position. Isabel calls it that because it reminds her about people doing belly slams at the pool. I looked down at Earth and I realized it is time to release my parachute. I pulled the string but the parachute didn’t fly out like it is supposed to. Crap. I tried pulling the string again and again. (You know like when the TV remote is dead, you press harder on the buttons thinking it would work. Admit it you’ve done it before! Anyways, back to the story!) There I was, falling at 90 mph without a parachute! I am going to die! I thought. I was about 150 feet from Earth. I decided to try to pull the string again, and it finally popped out of my bag. I relaxed a little. Thank God! I was going to land hard, but not too hard for serious damage. I looked down and saw I heading straight for a boy. I am going to hit him! I started screaming hoping he would notice and move. Just my luck, he didn’t move in time and I crashed into him knocking him to the ground. I hope I didn't hurt him too much! I thought.
“I am so sorry!” I started. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine for a girl who just knocked me over!” He joked. I laughed and he smiled. “You?”
“I’m okay. My parachute decided to mess with me. The usual.” I answered and we both laughed. He looked at me and I looked at him. He has blond hair and sky blue eyes. We just stared at each other for a moment. It was like the world around us froze.
“Um…Can you please get off of me?” he asked breaking the silence.
“Oh, Yeah.” I answered. I felt so stupid. I didn’t even realize I was still on top of him.
“Hey, I’m Brandon.” He said.
“Abbi.” We shook hands. The judge who was in the plane interrupted our moment.
“Glad to see you are alive!” My judge said gladly. “You gave me quite a scare!”
“That makes two of us.” I said.
He looked at Brandon and I. “Sorry to interrupt, but we have to go!” He said as he grabbed my arm dragging me away from the boy named Brandon.
