Josh is sitting on the grass, right in the furthest corner of the school's backyard.
He isn't sulking. He doesn't sulk.
He's watching the Green Team clean up the yard without him. Staring down at the stupid failing notice that's clenched in his hands, thinking about how the homecoming committee is probably getting ready for their meeting. Without him.
Josh sucks his pouty lip back in. Okay, maybe he is sulking.
You can't really blame him though. His mother told him that too many clubs would affect his grades and, like always, she was right.
But Josh knows that when he hands her the note, she will only bask in the glory of I told ya so for a few seconds, before she whoops Josh's ass to Neptune and then grounds him until he's 53.
Josh pinches the paper in his hands, crinkling it.
He could just... Not give it to her.
No! No, he was taught better than that. Gosh, he needs to get that attitude out of his head. If he tries to prolong the inevitable, not only will his parents be angry, but Brendon would also be disappointed, and Josh really, really does not want to disappoint Brendon.
Brendon is the bestest friend anyone could ever ask for. Sure, Josh is friends with some of the people in his clubs, but nobody could beat Brendon. Ever.
Brendon is a year older than Josh, and whilst most of the time acts like a kindergartner, is actually the wise one between him and Josh.
Josh likes to pretend he's wise, but we both know that on the inside he's a whining brat when he doesn't get his way. He would also be a whining brat on the outside if it weren't for his mother and Brendon. His mother's voice is what pressures him to keep it all in, but it's Brendon who's there to catch him when all his negative thoughts implode on him.
"Ya' need a pen?"
Josh jumps, almost letting out a little squeak when he hears a coarse voice speak into his ear.
He turns his head to see Tyler Big-Scary-Fighter-Man Joseph kneeling right next to him.
This time, Josh actually does squeak, leaning so far back away from the amused boy that he accidentally falls so he's laying down.
Tyler Joseph stands, and now Tyler Joseph is towering over a wide-eyed Josh's frightened frame.
The taller's shoulders rumble ever so slightly, and Josh's eyes slowly, ever so slightly squint into slits when he realizes Tyler Joseph is laughing at him.
A chuckle, a chortle, a snigger-- whatever you want to call it! Tyler Joseph's lips are stretched into a grin as he laughs at Josh's expense.
Josh can't help as he huffs in annoyance.
"Did you say something?" He grumbles as he stands, crossing his arms and fixing Tyler Joseph with a small glare.
Tyler Joseph smirks, raising an eyebrow at the boy's annoyed stance, before shaking his head a little and stepping closer to him,
"I asked if you needed a pen."
Josh can't help it as his lip curls in confusion, "What, why would I need a pen?"
Tyler Joseph gestures toward Josh's hand,
"You're failing, right? You're gonna need a pen to sign it."
Josh looks down at the notice in his hands, befuddled.
"Sign it? But it needs a parent's signature."
Tyler Joseph just looks at him amused, reaching into his pocket and retrieving a pen, which he twirls around his fingers, holding it out to Josh.
Josh stares at it before he suddenly understands and gasps, taking a step back,
"You want me to forge it? I can't do that!"
Tyler Joseph stares at him for a moment, his smirk slowly dissipating until it's just a small smile on his face, "So you're gonna tell your dear parent's that you're failing?"
Josh's nostrils flare, "I-!" He stops himself when he hesitates. The obvious answer should be yes yes I am, but Josh can't help but stare at the blue inked pen that Tyler Joseph is handing to him.
They just want what's best for you. I want what's best for you.
Brendon wants what's best for him! Failing English isn't what's best for him. Josh knows this. Yes, yes he is going to tell his parents he's failing... Okay, maybe he's just gonna slip them the note, but either way, they'll find out at his hand, he swears!
"Yes!" Josh shouts after far too long a pause.
Tyler Joseph's smirk has returned as he nods slowly, clearly not believing him.
"Right, okay," He says.
He steps real close to the shorter boy and Josh gets a good whiff of the Old Spice he's wearing. Tyler Joseph tucks the blue-inked pen into the collar of Josh's shirt, and then Tyler Joseph walks away.
Josh watches him go, the Wolfthorn scent gradually fading away with him. He reaches up and fiddles with the pen.
No. He rips it off his shirt and throws it to the ground, scowling. Tyler Joseph was almost the tipping point of his delinquent thoughts, and Josh really doesn't need that right now.
He stomps on the pen, digging it into the dirt, before walking away, leaving the bad idea and thoughts of Tyler Joseph with it.
