They walked down the hall past the kitchen that had the knife back in its place from the first time Macy was there. At the end of a hallway there was a shut door. Jade opened it to reveal a room with rose pink walls, a couple posters of cats, and inspirational quotes, a princess bed with lavender drapes, a window with a light turquoise window seat, and a white kitten was laying on the bed. "This is usually where I go to calm down, but now that you are with us you can have it." Macy shook her head. "I couldn't. It's too perfect. I would feel bad if you weren't able to come in here when you needed to."
"But I want you to have it."
"I guess.. but if you need somewhere to calm down I will be out of there in a millisecond. I would feel bad if I caused you to do anything," Macy said hesitantly.
"Girl, this is your room whether you like it or not. I am not taking it back," Jade shot back with a large grin on her face.Jade had gone back out to the main rooms. Macy had a big smile on her face. She looked around the room, and walked over to the bed, running her hand over it. She walked to the window and sat on the ledge of it. Macy heard stretching on the bed and almost forgot about the cat. She walked over, and laid on the bed next to it. "Hey kitty kitty." Macy reached over and pet the cat. Jade knocked at the door. "Hey, can I come in?" Macy nodded, then said, "Come in."
"I see you're getting along well with Zelda."
"Oh, so that's her name."
"Yeah, she was trained to be a helping cat. She's really good at telling if people are really stressed, and can help them calm down."
"I need a cat like that. It would be really helpful."
"I think I know.. If you want Zelda, she's yours."
"Really? I mean I would hate to take her from you if you were to need her."
"Well I can always pet her if I need to, right?"
"Of course, she was yours to begin with."Macy smiled, then looked back at Zelda. Jade shut the door on her way out leaving Macy alone again, and suddenly Macy was angry. As soon as Jade shut the door a whole bunch of emotions, and thoughts flooded Macy's mind. She hated it. She locked the door and sat on the bed. She felt like she was hyperventilating. She took her hands and put them on her arms, digging her nails into herself. A knock on the door snapped her out of it.
"Hey, it's Jem. Are you alright in there?"
"No, but I don't want to talk about it."
"Talking about it would help."
"I'd rather not. I need to feel like I have some secrecy."
"That makes sense, but please don't hurt yourself."
"I can't make any promises Jem, sorry."Jeremiah was silent for a moment. Then Macy heard him walking away. She tried to stop her hands from shaking. 'I need to do something.' She thought. Needing a distraction she grabbed a notebook out of the desk drawer in the room. It was light orange with a few white stars. In the middle it said "Don't promise, prove." Macy opened it to the first page and looked for a pencil. She found a pink mechanical one and started writing.
I am at a new house. I don't know what to think. My mind and thoughts and feelings are all on overdrive. They have a cat here, her name's Zelda. They also have a dog, Rocket. By they I mean Jeremy and Jade, who I have learned is his sister. My birthday's in a couple of days, but I don't plan on bothering them with that. If money is already a struggle I definitely don't want to come off as needy. I just want to fall asleep and escape from this world, even if for only a few hours. I think I need it, and have deserved it. I should probably go now. Until next time.
Macy shut the notebook that was now her journal. She looked at the door and decided she should probably unlock it. She went over to the door, but stopped before unlocking it hearing talking. "I know you love her, but I still don't know if this will work! If people call authorities saying we kidnapped her and come here finding no parents who's that going to make look guilty? We need to figure out a plan, Jem, and quick."
"Well she can't go back to that hell."
"I don't know if we have another choice!"
"Jade, you can't be serious. We can't do that to her. Please."
"Jem, just find somewhere she can go. She won't be able to stay."
"WHY?! What the heck happened between then and now that you have a problem with her staying?"
"I realized it won't work if some one rats us out. Her dad is most likely going to be mad and will want his daughter back, won't know where to look, then call the police. If he says something to someone it's not going to end well for any of us."
"Jade, please. I will talk to her dad. I am not letting someone take her from me. She needs to be safe, and right now the safest place for her is here."
"If something happens you are completely willing to take full responsibility? Even if it means jail and not getting to see her every day?"
"She needs this, and if that's what it takes then yes. I will. It might not even come to that."
"Fine. She will stay, you will talk to her dad, and I was never involved in any of this."
"Fine."Macy heard Jade close her door. Jem knocked at hers, surprising her. Slowly she unlocks the door, then opens it. "You heard us, didn't you?" Macy nodded. "I am sorry Mace, I thought you could just stay here and no one have any problem with it. I was wrong."
"No, it was not your fault. It was mine. I thought the same thing. I shouldn't have asked you to take me. I think in my gut I knew it wouldn't work."
"It hasn't not worked yet technically. No police have come, from what we know your dad hasn't called anyone about it, and in addition Jade has agreed to let you stay until someone comes after you. I will stay with you no matter what."
"Good, because I feel like everything is far from over."
"Sad to say, but I have the same feeling."
