A few weeks later all my exams were done! I was so relieved. Ashton had done what he promised and had a lot planned for us and it really was shaping up to be the best summer ever. It felt like everything was going right for me for once.
I went downstairs and because my mum wasn't in I had the house to myself, as usual. I walked into the kitchen to make some breakfast and sat and ate the cereal I had poured out for myself before deciding to go into the living room.
On my walk to the living room I seen the post had been delivered and went over to check if anything was for me. Surely enough, one of them was. It was from 'The college application services'
I gasped and ripped open the letter:
Dear Miss Healy,
Thank you for the college application you entered through our services. We sent them on to the college of your choice and we are sorry to inform you that your application to ‘The college of Social Science and Art’ has been declined.
They regret to withdraw you from their list; however, due to the sanction of suspension you were given in your high school they believe you would not be a suitable candidate for their course.
If you would still like to attend a college we could put you through clearance to possibly fit you in on the same course elsewhere. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Yours Faithfully
James Woodley.
‘What?’ I cried. I had been rejected?
I threw whatever I had in my hands on the floor and ran upstairs and lay on my bed. I was rejected because that stupid school suspended me. I was furious and ridiculously upset. That was the one college I wanted to get in and it wasn’t like college to reject students.
I couldn’t believe it. What was I going to do? I rang my mum while I was in floods of tears. She was probably going to go mad but she needed to be told at some point and getting it out of the way now seemed like the best option.
‘Mum’ I cried when she answered ‘I’ve been declined’
‘What? Declined from where?’ she asked in a rush
‘College. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now’ I said between sobs
‘Jade, I am so sorry. I know how much you wanted to get in. Can you not go to another college?’
‘They said they will try but I really wanted to go to that one mum’
‘I know you did sweetie. I’m so sorry. Why did they decline you?’
‘The suspension’ I whispered. She just stayed quiet for a few seconds.
‘Well don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get into another one and you’ll love it’ she said trying to comfort me. It wasn’t really working. I just sighed and said goodbye to my mum.
Declined from college. Wow. What an achievement.
I pulled the covers of my bed back and got back into bed. I wasn’t going to do anything other than feel sorry for myself all day. I put my phone face down on the table next to my bed so I didn’t see any text or phone calls and I turned over and just lay looking at the wall.
I’m not sure how long later but I know it was a while, I decided to pick my phone up and noticed 6 missed calls and 2 texts from Ashton.
“Hey you okay?xxxx”
“Ring me back when you see this xxxx” the texts read.
‘Hey, is everything okay?’ he asked when I rang him back
