4 MONTHS LATER

Diego POV:

" You have her trust?"

" Yes, sir."

" Do I sense hesitation," his voice rose, daring him to agree. Diego rose his face staring down the Alpha.

" Of course not sir."

" Anything to report."

" Arista and the Alpha are close. He has begun to give her more to do. She has begun training. We should not underestimate her."

" You are becoming close with her."

" Her friend, sir."

" Friend," he scoffed. " This will be her demise. She is very pretty, no. Maybe instead of killing her, I'll take her for myself." Diego's fists clenched. He didn't understand why until the tingle of anger burned against him. The thought angered him. The Alpha hand around her. Gritting his teeth together he held back the words that were rising in the back of his mind. " Be ready, nephew, I have something big planned."

" Yes, Uncle Dreven."

Arista POV:

I shushed the pup next to me. Covering my mouth with my hand I suppressed I childish giggle. I heard the crunch of leaves approaching. I pressed my back into the rock we were hiding behind. The children were squatting, eyes wide, holding back titters. Suddenly Diego's face came into view. I took a deep breath before pulling him down beside me. Pushing him into the rock I covered his mouth with my hand. He stared at me with questioning eyes but I shook my head vigorously. Breathing softly we waited with bated breath.

" Boo," Zander yelled, grinning like a madman. The pups yelped, jumping to their feet. I broke into a smile.

" RUN," I screamed. Pulling Diego behind me I sprinted into the woods. Zander followed, hot on our heels.

" What's happening?" Diego asked, his face serious.

" Lighten up, it's a game."

" A game?"

" Yes, you idiot. Now RUN!" I let go of his hand shifting in the air. My fur rustled. I had learned how to shift now. I was one of the fastest in the pack. Second, only to Zander, most of the time. Picking up my clothes in my mouth I kept sprinting. Callista had the same grin plastered on her face and I wondered how ridiculous I looked. I heard Diego shift behind me. I hadn't realized that I had never seen his wold before. Suddenly a black streak launched at me tackling me to the ground and licking my face. Callista howled and gave a whiny laughed. Steel smirked and laughed as he moved off of me. I blushed a little as I saw Diego. Not because of his wolf, of course, but because he was standing there. While Zander and I...

I looked back at his wolf.

He's hot.

Callista, we have a mate.

I'm just appreciating.

I rolled my eyes. She wasn't lying though. Diego's coat was a silvery gray. His violet eyes a stark contrast to his fur. And speaking of his fur. It seemed soft. Really soft. So soft I almost wanted to...I flushed again and looked down. Recovering I disappeared into the forest and shifted. Pulling on my clothes, I returned to wear Zander and Diego had shifted back and were conversing. I was glad they had become friends. After I let Diego go Zander had been extremely skeptical. But after Diego and I got closer Zander accepted him and they were good now. Which was good. Cause Diego was making his way to 'best friend'. I had to say I loved them both. In different ways, of course. But I could no longer imagine life without them. They turned to me as I approached. Zander kissed my forehead, smiling at me.

" I gotta go work. You gonna be okay with Diego?"

" I don't know," I turned to Diego raising an eyebrow. " You gonna try anything."

He smiled, rolling his eyes. " I wouldn't dare."

***

I stared up at the night sky. The twinking stars glistened a million different colors. Though most did seem like shades of white. Zander had been cooped into his office for hours so I had spent most of my time with Diego. And here we were now. After a large dinner staring up at the skies. A part of me wished I was here with Zander instead but the other part was more than fine with Diego. I turned coming face to face with his handsome face. I knew I had a mate but it was almost impossible to ignore how truly handsome Diego was. His rugged features and striking eyes would've made him irresistible. But I had a mate. Whom I loved.

" What?" I grinned.

" Has anyone told you your wolf is beautiful."

At least someone noticed, Callista muttered in my mind as I shifted to face Diego.

" You're not so bad yourself," I winked. He laughed something conflicting passing over his face. I couldn't tell exactly what it was. He ended up just smiling.

" Arista," he whispered, his voice drifting in the wind. I looked at him, eyes wide. Before I could think another thought he had closed the distance between us an pressed his lips against mine. I gasped my mind going into a panic at the kiss. Suddenly the panic waned and my thoughts cleared. Mate. I pushed him away quickly practically jumping to my feet. He followed his eyes wide in surprise.

" How dare you," I screeched backhanding him. He fell to the ground his eyes still wide in disbelief. He looked up at me, his violet eyes filled with something I couldn't place.

" I'm sorry, I just..." his voice was faint. She had never heard him sound so weak. " Please..."

" Go."

" Arista, I...I..."

" GO! I never, and I mean never, want to see your face again." There was venom in her words. She didn't wait for an answer before she turned and sprinted away. She couldn't say her heart didn't break. Couldn't lie that for a minute, a second, she almost wanted it.
