Chapter Twenty-Eight

Start from the beginning

“Why don't you let me have him?” Dean held out his own hands, anger shining in his own eyes for the situation. It was that fact, that he was just as pissed as I was, that I let him take the wolf from me.

“Thank you alpha” the wolf whimpered. Dean shut him up with one look.

“Don't thank me. You have some damn explaining to do” he yanked the wolf up to the house and I ran over to Mason.

His eyes were full of genuine relief and he let me drag him inside. I was furious. If that wolf was telling the truth, Mason was fully aware of the situation, knowing he could potentially be out of his depth and killed. I liked to think that Mason wasn't quite that stupid.

Of course, I had plenty of evidence pointing to the contrary.

“We were just practice fighting, alpha. It's not a big deal” the wolf said, talking as soon as we got inside.

“It's against our rules. You are not supposed to use your powers on another wolf” Dean growled.

“Why not? We should learn how to fight, especially with the hunters hot on our trail. Hunters that wouldn't even be on our trail if it weren't for your mate's pack” the wolf said. Again, Dean growled viciously. All that sounded suspiciously like a challenge.

“Get out of my sight. And don't let me hear of you don't any more foolish things” Dean threw him like he weighed less than paper and the wolf let out a small sound of pain.

I could care less. As far as I was concerned, he had gotten off easy.

Mason was at my back and I took him by the arm, dragging him back to our room. I was still angry at him. For a second, I honestly believed that I was going to lose him.

And that thought was beyond unbearable.

“Was he telling the truth?” I demanded as soon as we were behind the closed door.

Mason scratched his neck and chuckled nervously. That was answer enough.

I groaned, closing my eyes at his utter stupidity.

“Do you realize that you could've been killed?! What the hell were you thinking?!” I yelled at him. He wasn't smiling anymore.

“I knew it was a long shot but no, I hadn't really considered that possibility” he admitted. I gaped at him.

“Are you serious?!” my voice was rising up to a screech. I was thankful that the room was sound proof. Everyone would think I'm nuts if they heard my scream like this.

“I'm sorry Lottie but none of us know our own strengths against each other. We had no idea what the risks were. We were just experimenting” he said.

If I were in a stable frame of mind, I might have been able to see the benefits to their stupid plan. But right now, I was still imagining him being crushed to death.
