Callie POV
     I awoke to silence.
Had Penny left? I had no idea. Everything was oddly quiet though.
I quickly slipped on my slippers, and turned to head downstairs when my pager beeped loudly. I picked the device up reading: 911 Page Orthopedics unit from Owen Hunt
I set down the pager and grabbed some clothes to throw on.
I had managed to shower and get ready quite quickly and was able to head out the door. I didn't bother checking to see if Penny had left though, I didn't have enough time. A patient needed me.
Driving to the hospital took a matter of minutes, and I scrambled out of the car into the emergency area.
When I stepped into the trauma area, I found Owen holding a gown out for me, so I slipped off my clothes and changed into proper attire for a trauma. Once I was gowned and gloved, I followed Hunt to the patient. What I saw was not good.  It made me wince in pain.
A middle aged woman was lying on the table in agony, whimpering in a desperate effort to breathe. April was attempting to insert a chest tube as the woman had pneumothorax.
"Kristy Banks, 31 years old, in an automobile accident, specifically a head on collision. She was knocked out temporarily on the scene but regained consciousness within a few minutes. Evidence of a concussion present. She has two broken ribs, a broken wrist, and fractured femur. Her spine wasn't injured in the accident," Kepner reported as she successfully inserted the chest tube and the woman started breathing regularly again.
"Oh and also," she looked at me with anguish in her eyes, "she's pregnant."

We were two hours into the surgery to fix Ms. Banks up, or Mrs. Banks as a man claiming to be her husband came in before we started the operation. I was moving at a steady pace, with every stitch, every screw, every rod, every retractor, it was going quite well. She was going to be much better after we were finished.
"What do we have?" I heard a voice as someone came in the door from the scrub room. I knew the voice all too well.
    She was back?
When did...Wait...when did she come back?
She got on the plane...by herself.
In a way I was proud she had done that, but I was also scared. Scared to see her.
Her footsteps neared the table from behind me, but she moved to the opposite side for a better view of the patient...or was it me?
And then I saw her. The signature pink, flowered scrub cap. The sparkling, ocean blue eyes with perfect lashes and perfect eyebrows framing them. Her pupils met mine, and instantly I felt myself melting in the seas of blue.
"Dr. Torres?" My scrub nurse awakened me from the daze.
I averted my eyes quickly and stared down at my work. "Yes, yes, um, we have a 31 year old with a baby in possible distress. Scans were taken and can be seen on the screen on my left. Um...Dr. Robbins, do you see any possible signs of distress?" Saying her name felt like someone pricked a needle right into my heart and wouldn't take it out.
She cleared her throat. "I'm not seeing anything..Dr.Torres. I think the baby was unharmed, which is good news. Just wanted to check," she said as she turned around and I heard the scrub door open and her walk out.
Breathing a small sigh of relief, I was glad she had left. Even though there was all sorts of crap and tension and crap again between us, my heart rate always elevated and my palms always sweated and the electricity would spark in my veins. But now wasn't the time for that. I needed to concentrate on my patient, as her life was literally in my hands.
"So...that seemed a little funny, don't ya think? She could have just looked at the scans in the chart instead of coming into the OR," Maggie said, who had recently joined Hunt and I in surgery. April had returned to the pit and trauma as there were more patients who needed her assistance there.
I sighed and chuckled, faking all the emotions I was feeling. "It was nothing, we're just kind of on bad terms, maybe she just wanted to check for sure by coming in here."
"Oh now are you? I don't buy that for a minute."
"Yeah stuff happened," I said, hinting in my tone I didn't really feel like talking about it.
A look of surprise appeared on her face, I could see it under the mask. "Oh, okay, that's alright. Well...," she thought for a moment before continuing, "if you ever need to talk to someone.."
"Pierce I'm fine," I half snapped, half said. She stopped talking and we continued. Another guest appeared in the OR soon after.
"You guys need me? I'm looking at her scans, looks like there's some fluid buildup around the spleen. She might need a splenectomy, mind if I take a look?" Bailey said.
"Of course," I said as I moved over so Bailey could see. "Retractor please," she asked, and I pulled the liver away, revealing a enormously enlarged spleen. Fluid sprayed up onto my mask and gown. Well Bailey was right about fluid buildup around the area. It was hella lot of fluid too.
"Oh wow, okay, I'm going to need to scrub in beside Dr. Torres here, I need to take care of this spleen." She went over and was gowned and gloved, ready to operate.
This woman was in good hands.

"I'm pleased to tell you that your wife is safe and sound. She is in recovery right now, you can even go and visit her, she should wake up in a few minutes once we wean her off of the anesthesia," I explained to the frantic husband in the waiting room.
Tears welled up in his eyes. "Oh my-oh my, thank you so much, thank you so so much," he said and added "God bless you," as Pierce and Hunt led him to the recovery rooms. It was just me and Bailey now.
"Well...good working with you Dr. Torres. It's been a while since we've scrubbed in together," Miranda said beside me, holding out her hand for me to shake. I smiled at her and shook it. "It was a pleasure," I said.
I left her and went to the attendings lounge to change. It was a good day.
