Gravix hated complications. It wasn't as if he didn't run into them all the time though. Throughout his life, even when he was still part of Hydra Head, Gravix had done many studies in Lost Magic. Magic that was so old, that it was hardly used by anyone anymore. And of course, with the experimentations he tended to perform on these different types of magicks, Gravix tended to run into a lot of complications.
Being used to something though, didn't necessarilly mean liking it. With his hulking silver armor and his metalic lion-like mask, Gravix didn't look like the scientific type, however, his interest in the world surpassed his desire to fight, even though he did weild a particularly rare brand of Gravity Magic. After Erza Scarlet had saved his life many months ago, he had sworn his allegience to her and Fairy Tail. The area on his armor which used to hold the Hydra Head insignia now held the symbol of Fairy Tail, and ever since then, he had done more research related things then fighting.
Whenever he took a job, rather then taking the jobs that specified taking down bandits, or protecting an assasination target, he chose the jobs that required more brainwork, such as deciphering an ancient book, or coming up with a new spell to showcase at a convention. He had particularly exceled at all of those, and he became particularly popular as the 'Brainiac of Fairy Tail.'
Gravix didn't mind titles though, he just liked doing research.
At the moment, Gravix was doing just that. He was currently sitting in one of the larger tents in the war camp at a long rectangular table, putting drops of a mysterious substance onto a brownish green scale. As it so happened...this was one of Slither's scales, which had been left behind after he last attacked Mikoto.
Gravix murmured to himself as he wrote some notes down on a pad next to him. It was crucial that they learned as much about their enemies as they could, wars weren't won just by hitting things...even if that was how Natsu Dragneel liked to do it. Though he had once been the 35th rank in Hydra Head, he hadn't been in the mega knowhow in terms of which members saw all the top secret plans..so his information on Hydra Head was sketchy at best. In fact, all he knew about Plasmoid until he had been captured, was standing near him without sunscreen or Dragon Slayer augmented endurance, was not a smart thing.
The flap at the entrance of the tent flew open and Index walked in with a huff.
Gravix sighed. "I see you got into another argument. What is it this time?"
"Levy and Gajeel won't let me go with them to hunt down those stupid Wyrms!" Index said angrilly. "And they didn't have a problem with it before!"
"Before, they didn't know it was you." said Gravix. "To be quite honest, I don't think you're suited to battlefields."
"Grrr.." Index growled. "You're just like Touma!"
"And Mr. Kamijou cares for you, and so do the rest of us." said Gravix. "So heed our words and do what is wise, not just what you want."
"And now Mrs. Short Hair has gone and run off without us." Index mumbled. "Is this entire world falling apart?"
"Yes." said Gravix. "How fast it falls apart, and whether it does so completely, will depend on this war though. And Ms. Misaka. Hmmm...what's this?"
Gravix took a tiny pair of tweezers with his astoundingly delicate large hands and picked up what appeared to be a small gleaming particle on the base of Slither's scale. "This..if my sight holds right...is silver...but what is such a rare metal doing on this, if such a metal does not exist in the northern regions?"
Gravix examined the tiny piece of silver for a moment before cursing and throwing the tweezers down. "Those bastards!! They couldn't have!!"
"Wh-what!?" Index said with frightful surprise at Gravix's sudden outburst. "What happened!?"
