Megan's POV:

"Why do you always have to disappoint me like this. I go to work and then go on my lunch break to find you laughing with some other man in a coffee shop! Why the fuck would you do this to me?! Why do you always have to go behind my back and do shit like this, Meg?!!" He yells at me as he starts to drive us back to the house.

"I'm sorry J-James. I would've told you about it when you got home."

"Sure you would've. That's what all of the cheating wives say after they've been caught in the act." He sneers at me and hits me again, this time with a closed fist against my thigh.

"I-I'm not cheating on you, all it was was a coffee with an old childhood friend that i haven't seen in years!" He slaps me again before pulling into our drive way.

"Get. Your. Ass. In. That. House...Now!" I quickly rush into the house, James right behind me. After I hear the front door shut I feel a quick, harsh pressure on my back as i'm sent falling into the back of the couch, hard. "You know, i'd really like it if you'd stop lying to me." I gasp in pain as he punches me in the side.

"I'm not lying to your, James. I swear it," i get out between gasps of pain.

"Yeah, sure you aren't," he says as he pulls his fist back and grinds into my side. He continued this for a half hour before he stormed off, yelling he was going back to work and for me to not leave the house.

Marks POV:

I reluctantly give Megan a hug goodbye as her husband, James I think it was, watches over us like a hawk. Something in Megan changed as soon as she was aware of her husband. It was like she immediately shut down, like something in the way he grabbed ahold of her shoulder told her something that I wasn't able to neither hear nor understand. I watched, slightly sad that she was leaving, as her and James walked out to his car. I sat back down and just watched as they both got into the car. I jumped when I saw him close the distance between them with his hand striking her cheek. He then calmly started the car and drove off. The barista walked over just then and asked if I was finished with the tea that I had ordered and if I'd like another one. I just simply answered that I was done and that I'd like to pay. She nodded, took my cup and left me to my thoughts.

She returned soon with the check and lingered for a second before saying, "It's a shame about your friend, Megan, and her husband. I knew her before they got married. She'd always come in here on her days off from work and even when she was in college she'd come here to study every now and again. She sat right here in this corner, order a caramel something or other then let herself get lost in whatever it was she got lost in. I'd come sit with her on my breaks once we'd gotten to know each other. The only thing I'm going to tell you is that she needs to get away from that asshole, she changed as soon as he came around and then almost never came in after they were married. I asked her about it on one of the rare days that I saw her and she said that her husband didn't like her coming in here as much as she did. She kind of laughed and then said that she was 'meeting guys here and cheating.' She was laughing but I could tell there was something more behind the small nervous laugh. Anyway I should get back to work." She smiled and then left.

I paid and left a good tip for the barista, mainly since she shared what she'd seen about Meg. I walked out and slowly made my way over to the park. I walked around mindlessly for maybe ten-fifteen minutes before I found myself at the benches that I had found her at. I sighed and sat down where she had sat the night before. I thought about what the woman had said at the coffee shop and a sudden idea popped into my head. I smiled and speed walked to my car, hopping in and pulling out my phone and calling Meg.
