Well, great. Just what we needed. More enemies.
"Let's go there!" Madeleine cheered, running towards the alien ship.
"We can't go there! What if we get hurt, or worse? We can barely protect ourselves." Arlene grabbed her arm, stopping her.
"Parcee and I killed that doctor. I think we can kill more things, too!" She broke free and Izac pulled on the back of her collar.
"Nope. That was pure chance. There's no way we'll be able to protect ourselves from enemies without training." He countered, stone cold expression.
Knowing she was defeated, she stopped trying to run to the ship. With a huff, she returned to Arlene's side and we kept our distance as we left the area.
Great, back to the woods.
Amazing.
We stumbled upon an abandoned warehouse and decided to make it our current home, mainly because it was the only option.
It was rusty and smelled of burnt wood, but it was warm, and that's all we cared about.
"Why can't we just practice our powers?" Madeleine proposed, breaking the silence.
We looked over at her, waiting for an explanation.
"If we practice our powers, we can go on the ship and kill the bad guys," she said, gesturing around randomly.
"That's not a very safe idea-" Arlene started.
"That's an awesome idea!" I cut her off. "Practice makes perfect, after all," I beamed at this highly intelligent five year old.
"They've got a point, y'know," Izac agreed, raising an eyebrow at Arlene.
She finally gave in and agreed to practice her powers with us. We put our bags in a hidden area and found an open area.
I practiced talking the power out of the machines and got pretty good at it, then disaster struck.
My phone rang.
Alarmed, I activated my power and took all the battery from my phone.
"Well shit." I muttered, holding my now dead phone.
In a hopeless attempt, I reactivated my power and tried to restore the power.
At first, nothing happened.
I was about to give up when-
ding!
The screen lit up, and so did I. I can restore power.
I can restore life.
If someone dies, I can bring them back.
I looked at my hands, which have extraordinary power.
Fuck.
Dropped my phone.
As I bent down to pick it up, I noticed something on the wall.
A logo.
Curious, I strode over and wiped the dirt off the wall.
'Lucky Smells Lumber Mill' it said.
"Whatcha looking at, PaRCEE-?" Arlene looked over my shoulder, then screamed as she read the logo.
"What's wrong?" I asked frantically, looking back at her, then the logo on the wall.
"We're in Lucky Smells Lumber Mill. Don't you know what happened here?" She grabbed my shoulders, shaking me a little.
"Uh, no?"
"Don't you know how many people have died here?"
That got my attention.
Died?
Nope, not staying. We had to leave.
"Guys! We have to leave! This place is a death trap." I announced, walking swiftly over to my bag.
"A what?" Izac asked, his voice rising out of fear.
"Guys? We have some visitors!" Madeleine screamed as she ran towards us.
She was being chased by some aliens.
Wait, what?
Nope nope nope nope.
Even though we barely knew what we were doing, we got into some kind of stance.
If you can't impress them with intelligence, baffle them with bullshit.
I live by that.
We fought to the best of our abilities, which was pretty damn good.
Before long, the aliens were dead and all of us were unharmed and standing.
"See? I told you we can protect ourselves!"
Touché, child.
We left the deadly lumber mill and headed back out, being extremely aware of our surroundings.
Now that we've been attacked once, it'll happen again.
And again.
And again until we die.
Or disband. Whichever comes first.
Enough about our inevitable futures, we have a ship to investigate.
We made our way back to the site and watched as more aliens poured out of the front.
We dove into some bushes for cover, silently watching from afar.
When we were sure they had left, we took Madeleine's advice and boarded the ship.
It was red and purple, and shaped like the head of an insect. Gross.
As we explored, we found a control room. What we saw was, frightening.
Disturbing.
"Plans for the destruction of Earth?" Izac read off the screen, eyes going wide. I looked over at him in a panic, unsure what to say.
"This is probably what the doctor was talking about." Arlene said, trying to connect the dots.
"We have an alliance with the Trial. We have been informed that they shall send four super-humans who will attempt to stop us, but will fail. They will never succeed." I read off the manuscript gravely while three pairs of oddly coloured eyes bore into my back.
"We're super-humans." Madeleine whispered, seeing how it all came together.
We looked at each other in disbelief, completely terrified and utterly confused.
We just read our deaths.
This is how we'll die.
Wow.
I noticed a glint in Izac's eye. It was mischievous and nearing evil, but I didn't question it. He was always like that and frankly, I didn't want to ask.
We left the ship and started wandering again.
It felt like that's all we'd ever do.
Wander.
Such a monotonous task.
All I wanted was to be at home, listening to music and drawing, but noooo, I'm stuck in the middle of the woods with four strangers, whom of which I'm being constantly hunted with, and we're trying to escape our terrible fate.
Great. Just great.
But wait,
It got worse.
How is that even possible, you ask? Well, I have one word for you.
Fire.
