I walked back to the apartment with Wren clutching my hand. I slipped the umbrella back into my huge tote bag, and looked down at Wren. Her red hair blew backwards, still wavy from being in braids yesterday. We walked to the apartment, went up the elevator and walked into the living room.

"Wren, you know mommy loves you, don't you?" I ask Wren as I kneel down in front of her.

"I know, I love you too Mommy."

"Do you know how to keep a secret?"

"Of course!"

"Because Mommy loves you so much, you must keep Mommy's friend a secret, she makes Grandma and Grandpa mad, and we don't want to make them mad,  alright? So this must be our little secret."

"Okay Mommy,  I'll keep it a secret."

"That's my girl!" I lean over and hug her. I then rush over and try to make the apartment seem as though we never left.

After I unpack all of Wren's things into their usual places, and get Wren dressed and into bed. I make sure to change into sweats and an oversize T-shirt, as I am putting Wren to bed, I hear the lock on the door click open.

"Clary, we're home!" "I'm in Wren's room! I'll come out after I'm finished! I yell back. I walk over and close Wren's door.  Her white bedroom door closes with a creek. I walk over to Wren and sit on her bed. "Remember what I told you about our secret?"

"I can't tell it!"

I smile at her. "Good job, now, now it's time to go to sleep." I start to sing the song I always sing to her before she falls asleep. It was my favorite lullaby that Jocelyn would sing to me before I went to sleep. It was a James Taylor song, and it has stuck with me ever since I was little. I hum the melody, think how true the words are, and how fitting they are to my situation.

The water is wide,

I can't cross over,

And neither have I wings to fly.

Build me a boat

That can carry two

And both shall row, my love and I.

There is a ship

And she sails the sea.

She's loaded deep,

As deep can be.

But not so deep

As the love I'm in,

I know not how I sink or swim.

Oh love is handsome

And love is fine,

The sweetest flower

When first it's new.

But love grows old

And waxes cold

And fades away like Summer dew.

Build me a boat

That can carry two

And both shall row, my love and I,

And both shall row, my love and I.

When I finish, Wren is fast asleep. I walk out of Wren's room, and find Jocelyn and Luke sitting on the couch of the living room. "Clary!  How was your day? We had a magnificent time at Central Park!" Jocelyn said beaming at me, practically a ray of sunshine.

"Oh, I just stayed home, and watched and played with Wren."

"That's great honey! Come over and sit with us!" I stalked over, out of the hall, and between the hall and the living room. Luke moved out of the way, onto the Lazy-Boy and pulled out a book. I plopped down next to Jocelyn and laid my head on her lap. I stared up at the ceiling and watched the light of the TV turn on and turn the white ceiling a chorus of color. Jocelyn looks down at me and smiles, meanwhile I stating at the ceiling; plotting to break her biggest rule of all.

I walked back into my room and and read in my leather chair until Izzy came bursting through my door.

"Isabelle! What the hell! I yelp, jumping out of my chair. "What are you doing here,  I figured you and Simon would take your date back to his place for a sleepover."

"Jace, just shut up and listen to me! Okay?" Izzy practically screams at me.

"Okay, Angel! I'll listen to you!" I yell back at her, sinking back into my chair.

"Before I start, I need you to promise me that you will not interrupt me at all when I tell you what I am about to say."

"Okay, whatever."

"I didn't go and see Simon when I left, I went to go and see Clary." I thought my head was about to explode because so many questions popped into my mind. I opened my mouth to ask one of them mainly 'What did she say', but I was silenced by one of Izzy's patented glares. "She wanted to see me, and she wanted me to relay a message, she wants to meet you at Central Park.  She isn't sure when she can escape her parents, but she will text me when she can go, and she will give me a place for you two to meet." She pauses, and waits for a couple seconds. "Okay I'm finished."

I immediately get up and cross my room to her and ask her how Clary looks, and if she knows why she left. I was going insane wondering about the awful situations she could have been in. Izzy just sends me a a small smile and says "She looks fine. She had to leave because Jocelyn forced and threatened her, but I can't tell you why."

I watch Izzy, looking for signs she knows anything that could tell me more about Clary; and I found them.

"You know something!  Izzy you have to tell me! I am dying inside not knowing! Please Izzy I am begging you!"

"No Jace, I made a promise to Clary that I wouldn't tell you anything about it until you have met with her. I'll tell you when I get a text from her."

"But-"

"Oh, and Jace, make sure to keep my visit with Clary a secret, we need to make sure that as few people know about her being here as possible, I don't think she could handle a huge reunion."

With that Izzy spun on her heel and sauntered out of my room. I groaned and stumbled over to my bed, and laid on my back staring at my ceiling. Why does life have to be so complicated? I think to myself, as I fall into the comfortable oblivion of sleep.

A/N

I updated the story to have the James Taylor lyrics as the ones that Clary sings instead of the choral version. It really doesn't affect the actual song lyrics (except for a couple lines), and it is easier to look up/listen to. Besides it makes more sense in the story.

I choose this song to give Clary a unique lullaby, instead of the usual, mundane (see what I did there!) Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, or Brahms Lullaby. Besides in my opinion it's just a really pretty song.

So yeah, there's my explanation!
