Amy drove us to the police station, it was a 20 minute ride. Cari was sitting next to me and never let go of my hand. Claire had fall asleep on my lap a couple of minutes ago so we had to wake her up cause we had to go inside.
" Should I wake her? " I asked Cari.
" Yeah, she can sleep later. " she gave me a warm smile and opened the door to get out of the car.
" Hey, little one. " I kindly shook Claire to wake her up.
" Wake up sleepy head. " I caressed her back when she started moving. " We're here. "
" Where's mommy? " she asked me after she rubbed her pretty eyes with her tiny hands.
" She is waiting for us right there. " I pointed out of the window to where Cari was standing so Claire can see her. " C'mon let's go. " I told her and opened the door. When I thought she was gonna walk with me inside, she got ahold of my neck and wrapped her legs around my back.
My heart started beating like crazy, the kind of affection Claire shows me these past days is making me feel emotions I've never felt before and I really don't know how to explain it. It's something out of the world, just like this little human.
I wrapped my one hand around Claire's back to hold her and closed the door behind me. Cari was having a convo with Meghan and Amy and when she saw me and her daughter approaching them, the most beautiful smile appeared on her face.
" Ready? " Amy asked me.
I took a deap breath. " Let's do this. " I replied. I pushed the door of the Los Angeles Police Department open and walked inside first, with the rest of them following behind me.
" Hi, could you tell me where I can find Lieutenant James Hunter? " I asked the girl at the front desk.
" Yeah sure, his office is right down the hall. " she replied and pointed at the hall.
" Thank you. " I smiled at her and walked through the hallway.
Claire removed her head from the crook of my neck to look around her. She removed her head but never her hands. She was still holding me tight.
I kept looking at every door we were passing by until I found the one with the name of the Lieutenant. I looked over at my friends and they all smiled at me to give me courage. I took a deap breath and knocked slightly on the door.
" Come in! " a male voice was heard from inside of the office.
" Good evening Mr Hunter. You called me a couple of hours ago, my name is Shannon Beveridge. " I said.
" Oh, please come in. " he immediately stood up and walked my way. " You brought company, excellent. " he smiled at the girls. I expected him to be older but actually, he seemed to be at the same age as me. Claire seemed to be a little uncomfortable or shy around the Lieutenant, she held me tighter.
" This is my girlfriend Cari, these are my best friends Amy and Meghan and this is Claire. " I introduced them to him and Claire hid her face in the crook of my neck when she heard me saying here name.
" Nice to meet you ladies. I am James Hunter, the Lieutenant of this department. " he shook their hands. " Nice to meet you too little lady. " he turned to Claire.
" Claire, say hi to Mr Hunter. " Cari told her daughter.
Claire is always listening to Cari and do whatever she says. Even if she is shy, like she is at this moment, she will listen to what Cari says. This shows how much she trusts her mother.
" Hello Mr Hunter. " she said shyly but kindly. Mr Hunter smiled at her and caressed her hair and then returned to his chair.
" Please, take a sit. " he said to all of us. We sat at the multiple chairs there were in the office and we were now ready to listen to what he had to say. " As I told you earlier today, it is possible that we have found the driver that caused your tragic accident 18 years ago. " he started explaining and when he was ready to continue, Claire stopped him.
