Papers flew with the wind as I ran down the streets. My panting grew louder - I wish I had stuck to my stupid new year's resolution. I was late - for the second time. I had missed my stupid deadline by two days and now I am going to be late again. It would be a miracle if they published my book at all!
It was the hottest day of the year and my running wasn't really helping me cool down. Finally, I reached the glass building which I lovingly knew as my publishing company. I searched for my keys, with no prevail. I couldn't wait out here for someone to come and rescue me! It would only result in more tardiness! I would be like the heroine in my delayed book and save myself! I broke the small window near the door and unlocked it from the inside. My knuckles started to bleed but the fear of unemployment overpowered my physical pain.
I was in such a rush that I almost ran past the staff. I braced myself for an earful of complaints and a cheque to replace the broken glass but I only received thanks, much to my surprise.
Why were the staff grateful that he had broken the window?
