Liza's POV
I hold the test between my legs, hoping that I actually piss on the stick. That's weird. We piss on sticks to see if we're carrying a baby. I breathe in, hands shaking violently. I peek with one eye. We got one of those expensive ones that have words to be safe. I open my other eye and the word stares back at me. Pregnant. I'm pregnant. I'm fucking pregnant. There is a life inside of me. I drop the test on the floor and raise my hands to my cheeks. I'm totally dreaming. I can't help but beam as I bend to pick up the test. Yep, in bold black letters. Pregnant. I flush the toilet and wash my hands. David's pacing around the bedroom, hands clasped behind him. He sees me and rushes over.
"I'm pregnant."
His face lights up and he throws his arms around me. He kisses me on the forehead and smiles, lifting up me shirt. He plants a big kiss on my belly.
"I love both of you so much. Oh fuck, I'm going to be a father."
I roll my eyes at him.
"Oh fuck, I'm going to push a human out of my vagina."
He smiles and wraps his arms around me.
"I love you."
We drive over to Gabbie's house. I want her to be the first person to know.
"Hold on. I know when both of you show up, it's either a prank or something bad."
"Well... it's neither."
She looks at us quizzically and widens the door. David squeezed my hand as we step inside.
"Two Dobriks arrive at the same time, squeezing hands... what's wrong."
I force a fake sob and bury my head in my hands to conceal a smile. David wraps his arms around me and buries his face in my hair. I breathe in sharply and look up, pretending to wipe away tears.
"We... we went to the doctors... I have a tumor in my uterus."
Her hands fly up to her face and her eyes start to water.
"It's a rare form of cancer, B.A.Y.B.I, and it's irreversible."
"Oh god that's awful, you... wait. BAYBI? Baby?"
I smile at her and she throws her arms around me, jumping up and down and not caring in the slightest about getting makeup on her shirt.
"Holy shit, congratulations! I didn't think you two would be the second. Are you ready though? You're so young! This was planned right? Oh god, Liza, did you not take your birth control? Did the co-"
"Yes, it was planned Gabbie. Relax!"
She smiles and throws her arms around David and I once more. Before we know it, everyone's at her house congratulating us. Scott and Kristen tell us about what it's like to be a young parent. Zane looks at Gabbie, and she shrugs her shoulders sadly. Weird. We hang around for a bit just talking. I wish I could have a drink, but I'm not fucking stupid. It's late at night before David and I desire to go home.
Some time later (explained later)
David's POV
"So... what are you implying?"
"Well... there's not any real danger as it stands now. But if the tumor on the umbilical begins to grow, the baby-"
"Tumor? She - it- they have a tumor?"
"Benign. No cancer, just a cluster of cells."
Still on edge, I nod my head for the doctor to finish.
"If the tumor stays relatively small, we should be able to snip it right off. No problem. But if it gets too large, the baby will be undernourished. No nutrients will be able to pass because of the blockage. Unfortunately, this has a 100% of a miscarriage."
Liza's head sinks and I hold her hand tighter. Her belly is growing what seems like every day. She's not giant yet - it's only been just over a month. But she's definitely rounder than before. We're planning on telling all of the people who watch our videos really soon. The doctor gazes at us sadly.
"You know, my wife was going to be a young mom too."
We look up at him, Liza wiping a tear from the corner of her eye.
"We'd been told she beat her cancer. The doctors told us that the chemo worked and we believed them, of course. We celebrated with wine and cheese and a movie that night. A few moths later, we found out she was pregnant."
He stops for a second and takes a breath in.
"She was also rediagnosed with stage 5 bone cancer. She died a few weeks later with the baby still in her. There was no way to save it. This was all a few years ago. I have a child with my current wife, and you're going to love every second of it."
Liza wipes away a few more tears from his story. She pushes herself out some the bed and wraps the doctor in he biggest hug.
"Thank you. For sharing that, for warning us. For... for everything you've done for other people. And us. We are so happy to have had you as our doctor for the past year. "
He just smiles and nods his head. He starts to walk out if the room, but turns around to leave us with a few parting words.
"You are going to make two incredible parents."
So if you were paying attention, you'll know i skipped some time. About a month. I just felt like nothing really eventful would happen in that time. I'm not going to write a full nine months of pregnancy seeing as this book is winding down. I will be ending this in a few chapters. I've really enjoyed getting to know all of you in the comments and learning how to write better. You guys are the ones who made this possible. Thank you. As always, sorry for any typos.
Thx babes!
