Chapter 22 (Ava)

I rushed down the common room stairs as quickly as I could. I wanted to get out of there before Draco saw me.

Something on the notice-board caught my eye and I slowed down to a halt. It was a large sign that read:

I frowned; my memory of Apparition wasn’t nice. It had made me feel very dizzy and sick. Fred and George had obviously learnt Apparition in their sixth year. They’d enjoyed making Hermione jump as they appeared with a bang beside her.

I had never learnt Apparition last year because I hadn’t noticed the sign, and I would have had to do it on my own with a group of sixth years I didn’t know. However, now, I know most of the sixth years from my lessons. Harry, Hermione and Ron were all in sixth year as well. Apparition seemed like something I would need in the future.

I picked up the quill and wrote my name neatly underneath the sign. It reminded me of when I had signed up for Dumbledore’s Army. That had been a lot of fun; I wished Professor Umbridge and Draco hadn’t ruined it like everything else that gave me joy.

I heard voices coming down the stairs and quickly made my way out of the common room and towards the Great Hall.

Harry was sitting with Ron at the Gryffindor table. I walked over to him quickly,

“Harry!”

He turned around and his face lit up. He got up and I pulled him into a fierce hug,

“I missed you. Did you have a good Christmas?”

He nodded,

“Yes thanks. How was yours?”

I thought about the lonely days on the Astronomy Tower and the lack of people to talk to. Then I remembered the mystery gift I had received. I smiled,

“It was alright, thanks. By the way, thank you so much for my present.”

Harry grinned,

“You liked it? I didn’t quite understand what Remus was saying about it being a good enough present on its own but-”
