"You want some of this crap they call coffee?" Jack asked, leaning against my door.
"Can't, no fluids until after the transfusion." I explained as I adjusted the hospital gown that hung limply over my body. Whoever invented these purposely made them very unattractive.
"Oh yeah, I'm literally gonna be a few minutes." He told me, running over to give me a quick kiss.
"If I die within these next few minutes Im gonna be so pissed that coffee was more important!" I teased, feigning shock. I got a middle finger back and Jack was gone. One of the nurses came in to give me the medication for my transfusion. "Is he your guy?" She asked, her curled blonde hair spilling over her uniform that was obviously a size too small. I shrugged and chugged the medication down. "Well I wouldn't be hanging around if I were you!" She told me, giving me a quick wink before swaying out of my room. I pulled a middle finger up at the closed door and turned on my docking station. Fall Out Boy started playing just as Jack walked in. "They were amazing to go on tour with." He grinned taking a sip out of the plastic Starbucks cup. So he had gone to the better downstairs café than the really bad coffee machine in the waiting room. "Really?" I grinned back as he walked over towards me.
"Yeah, but I vaguely remember regretting drawing a dick on all of the guitars... I also remember why taking tequila shots at 3 am is also a bad thing." I laughed as I imagined Jack waking up with a hangover and realising what he'd done.
"Sounds like touring is really fun."
"Yeah... About that... I need to leave soon to get back for a sound check." He told me, putting his coffee down carefully. That was a big reminder that he wasn't here just to see me, but to go on tour. I also realised how selfish I had been taking him away for a whole evening. (It was just lucky that they had a day off on that evening)
"Yeah, of course." I smiled reassuringly, when a nurse came in.
"It's time."
Jack told the nurse to call him as soon as it was finished and to call him if anything happened. We kissed briefly before I shakily walked towards the nurse who guided me to anaesthetic room. I knew he wanted to be here with me, but he had a commitment to his fans and the rest of the band. I knew it but it wasn't exactly ideal. I lay on the bed and tried to calm down as they sorted out the gas that was going to make me unconscious. The nurse walked up and gave me a quick smile. "It's gonna be okay." He told me, flashing me a white smile that I couldn't help but give a weak smile back. "Yeah, sure it is." I mumbled, when the mask went over my mouth. My brain screamed at me to not breath any of it in, to hold my breath until my lungs exploded. Yet, I gently breathed in the thick air that made me feel drowsy. First, it was my body that felt heavy and weak, then I felt all of my muscles relax until my eyes started drooping. Panic was screaming at me but I tried to ignore it, so I thought of Jack. Suddenly, it was black.
