Chapter 4
Four POV
"You worthless excuse for a son!"
I trip over a table as I dodge his swinging fist.
"Be a man!" he yells, kicking me in the stomach.
The air leaves my body and I can't move. Just wheezing and shaking.
Then the sound of leather smacking skin echoes through the house. Along with my cry of pain.
"Get up!" he orders.
I try to get to my knees but collapse.
"Get up!" He yells louder and whips me again.
I don't even try to get up this time. I'm in to much pain.
"I. Said. Get. Up!" He says. And after every word, I get whipped.
My eyes flutter open. Or at least one does. My right eye has swollen shut since he punched me. Then I close my eye again. I don't know how long he stands over me but then I feel him grab my shirt and drag me to my room.
"Worthless." He mutters and throws me in my room and slams the door.
"Four?"
This isn't my father's voice.
"Dude, wake up!"
I jump and make a fist and Zeke jumps back quickly.
I look around. I'm on the plane. For a second, I can't remember how I got here. Then I remember the whole process of getting of the bus and onto the plane. I was only dreaming about what happened last week. I look at the front of the plane where Mr. Marcus Eaton is sitting. Everyone loves him. They have no idea what kind of monster he is.
Zeke puts a hand on my shoulder. He doesn't know everything, but he does know that my dad has hit me before.
"I'm fine." I lie.
"You're sweating through your shirt, Tobi..."
I clamp my hand over his mouth. Nobody knows my name. I am Four. Even to the teachers. Tobias Eaton is a weak little boy. Four is a cool, fearless guy that everybody knows.
I look around but not one of my classmates are paying any attention. My eyes wander to the front again where Marcus is sitting and talking with Mr. Erik. They're whispering about something. Our two women teachers that have come along aren't paying them any attention. Miss Tori and Miss Joanna.
Cara made it a point to sit across the aisle from me and she takes this opportunity to get on my nerves, "Evening, sunshine." she says smiling.
I nod, "What time is it?"
"Six-thirty. Two more hours until we get to the hotels. Not that you care though, right?"
Why does no one think I want to go to Disney World? Seriously!
"I am so excited." says Tris who is sitting in behind me.
"No one cares." Cara snaps.
I know it will get in Cara's nerves, so I turn around, "what are you looking forward to?"
I hear Cara scoff and Tris' eyes widen. I think she was trying to get on Cara's nerves too.
"Characters and rides." Tris smiles.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Cara Shake her head and put in her ear buds. Guess she's done trying to talk to me.
I smile at Tris, "What are you reading?"
"Catching Fire."
"Nice." I nod. "Do you like it?"
"It's getting good." She smiles.
She has a really attractive smile actually.
"Well, I'll let you get back to your book." I say.
She nods, "Okay."
I turn back around and wonder how I am going to go back to sleep when we get to the hotels. I no longer have dreams but nightmares about Marcus.
