Everything happened so quickly. I couldn't control it, it just spilled out. I needed to tell her. Scully is someone I can't hide the truth from, I couldn't continue to lie to her. I hated lying to her, she was the only one I could trust with any information. When she knocked on my motel room door, I decided that I needed to tell her what my real plans were. I opened the door and gave her a tired smile. She returned it and walked into the room towards the light switch. I sat on my bed, mentally preparing myself for what was to come. Scully flicked the switch, and I squinted while lowering my head.

After a few moments of silence, Scully walked towards my bed and said "Mulder, you've got that guilty look on your face again. What is it this time?". She had her eyebrow raised, something she only does when she wants answers. I raised my lowered head to meet her eyes and sheepishly respond "Well, Scully, you've got to promise you won't get mad at me or anything.".
She pauses for a moment, then starts to smile.
"Ok, Mulder. As hard as it may be, I won't get mad at you.".

I let out a sigh of relief, and ran my fingers through my hair, something I only did when I was nervous. Ok, Mulder. You can do this. You need to tell her the truth, I think to myself.            "Ok. So, there is a very good possibility that I might have forged the case file and this whole thing has nothing to do with work?" I manage to get out. Scully begins to giggle, and then replies "Mulder, I'm not mad. I suspected the case file being fake the whole time. But why did you drag me out in the middle of nowhere without a reason?". Oh crap, now I'm in trouble. How do I tell her that I wanted to be with her without saying I wanted to be with her?

Ok, here goes nothing. "Um, well, I uh, wantedtospendtimewithyououtsideofwork." I say extremely fast so that maybe she wouldn't figure it out. I felt myself blushing again. Scully looked at me with an expression that I can only classify as pure confusion and said "Mulder you what?". I squirmed in my seat. She wasn't going to let this one go. I take a deep breath and slowly say "Scully, I dragged you out in the middle of nowhere so I could spend time with you outside of work. I'm sorry I just didn't flat out say it, but I knew you'd come if it seemed like it was related to work.".

I tried giving her the subtlest puppy dog eyes I could muster up, and they somehow worked. Scully walked to the bed, and sat by me. "Mulder I would've gone if you had told the whole story. I was wanting to spend time with you too. Now that we're here for four days, we'll get a lot of quality time.". She gave me a big smile, one that both her mouth and eyes were smiling. I returned it, genuinely happy. She wanted to spend time with me too. I had done a pretty stupid thing, but Scully not only wasn't mad at me, she was actually happy about it.

Without thinking, I pushed her hair behind her ears like I do when she is sad. Another moment of Mulder's stupidity to add to the list. Shockingly, she leaned into me and rested her head on my shoulder like she didn't mind what I did. I took this as a good sign and pulled her closer to me by wrapping my arm around her. I don't know how long we stayed like this, nor does it matter. I was so in love with her in that moment that a bomb could've gone off and I wouldn't have noticed. I hadn't wanted a moment to last as much as I did with this.

Before I realized it, Scully had fallen asleep in my arms. She was probably really tired from the trip and needed to go to her room. I didn't want to wake her, so I picked her up and carried her to her room. I didn't have a key to her room, so I couldn't get in. Luckily, Scully was smart enough to have put her key in her jacket pocket, which I found fairly quickly. As soon as I opened the door, I gently put her on a couch and walked over to her bed. I pulled the covers down and went back over to Scully. Good, she's still asleep.

I picked her up again, and headed to the bed. I carefully set her down and pulled her jacket off.  I set it on the couch, and then put the covers over Scully's body. I leaned in close to her, but then hesitated. No, not now. Too soon. I tip toed toward the door and stopped. I had to do it or I'd never stop beating myself up for it. I quickly walked back to the bed. I stared down at her and smiled. Scully looked so beautiful even when sleeping. I leaned down again, and kissed her forehead. "Goodnight, Scully." I whispered, and closed the door.
