michael takes a deep breath, fixing his hair again and looking back up at himself in the mirror. he chews on his lip, every possible way he could screw up playing on a constant loop in his head.
                          
he sighs and blinks a few times, breaking eye contact with his reflection and trying to push aside the thought of him forgetting his vows. trying. he fails.
                          
michael can practically feel his stress level rising as he fumbles for his phone on the dresser in front of him. he looks down and his eyes widen because where the fuck is his phone.
                          
there's a soft knock on the door to the small dressing room michael's in, and he manages to get out a 'come in', taking another deep breath and turning around.
                          
his mum steps into the room, which, michael doesn't even remember if that's allowed or not, and walks towards him.
                          
"have you-" michael clears his throat, his voice a little shaky, "have you seen my phone?"
                          
karen frowns, "no, why? you look a bit flustered, are you feeling okay?"
                          
michael immediately shakes his head, glad she had noticed so he didn't have to bring it up. "i need luke."
                          
"you know you're not meant to see-"
                          
"i don't care, mum, i need luke." michael cuts her off, and she nods.
                          
"deep breaths, baby bear, i'll find him, alright?" she exits the room, leaving michael to sit on the single chair in the room and try to calm himself down.
                          
a few minutes later, there's another knock and then luke enters the room, not waiting for a reply.
                          
michael stands up and walks straight into his arms, already crying softly. "i'm scared..."
                          
"i know, baby, i know. you're okay, you're gonna do great, love." luke rubs his back, the shorter man had already taken off the jacket to his suit.
                          
"h-how-" michael pauses, sniffling and mentally cursing at himself for stuttering, "how much time do we have?"
                          
luke checks his watch, "it doesn't matter, sweetheart. we're staying right here until you feel okay, until you're ready, yeah?"
                          
michael nods, coughing a little and tucking his face into luke's chest. he feels luke's hands running gently up and down his back, through his hair.
                          
"luke?" he whimpers quietly, his grip tightening around his fiancé's waist. "what if i trip and fall and forget my vows and drop the- the ring and panic and- and- god, luke, what if i cry in- in front of all-"
                          
"shhhh..." luke soothes gently, "breathe, sweetie, relax." he continues to rub his back.
                          
michael lets out a quiet sob, muffled by luke's shirt. luke feels awful, he can't seem to calm him down and they're about to be late, but luke won't tell him that.
                          
"easy, love. you'll do amazing, don't worry." luke slowly walks over to the wall, helping michael along with him.
                          
luke leans against the wall so he can better support michael. "focus on my voice, baby."
                          
michael whines softly, he can't focus on anything. his mind is swirling with unwanted worries and his heart feels like it's about to beat out of his chest.
                          
"listen to me, sweetheart. i know it feels like you can't, but i need you to try and get those thoughts out of your head." luke murmurs, "imagine they're all the opposite, think of what's going to happen when you don't trip. you're going to make it to me, and you have your vows written down. when you pick up my ring, you're gonna put it on my finger, and then we're married. and if you drop it, i'll drop yours, too. if you forget a few words, then so will i. if you trip, baby, i will purposely fall flat on my face. you're not alone, love, we're in this together."
                          
and michael's laughing, wiping away his tears and stepping a little away from luke to look up at him.
                          
"what?" luke grins. he doesn't know why michael's laughing so hard, but he's glad.
                          
"now i kind of want to trip." he smiles, green eyes sparkling with something that was missing a few minutes ago when luke gently cups his face in his hands and presses an affectionate kiss to his forehead.
                          
"you're okay?" luke gives his hand one last squeeze when he nods, walking away with a loving gaze and a quiet exchange of 'i love you's.


                          
(luke almost drops the ring, but michael does amazing. luke makes sure to let him know when they disappear together after the ceremony)
