Chapter 3

                                    

                                          
James POV
                          
We get back to my house. Me and Riley sit down on the couch. I put my arm around her, and bring her onto my lap. I missed having her around me. I hold her closely to me. She snuggles into me. It hurt me to see her in so much pain. 
                          
"Can you tell me what happened?" I whispered softly. 
                          
"What do you want to know?" She whispers back. 
                          
"Everything. How you got involved with him, to basically tonight." She doesn't move for a while, than she nods. 
                          
She tells me everything. How Josh had come to her school a short time after we had broken up. He seemed so kind and innocent. Her, along with most of the other girls, had fallen for him. 
                          
One day, he had asked her out, and she had accepted. He was a few years older than her, but he had seemed so sweet. He took her out, acting so nice and like a complete gentleman to her.
                          
When they started getting more serious, his personality had completely changed. Riley soon found out that he smoked a lot, did drugs, and drank whenever he could. He barely went to school, and soon dropped out of it all together. He became more possessive, and over bearing. He acted like she was his own property. 
                          
One day when he was waiting outside of the school to pick Riley up, he saw her talking to one of the boys in her class. When she got in the car, he slapped her, and told her to never talk to any other guys. He demanded that she move into his apartment. She refused. When she got home though, her parents got mad with her. They blamed Josh for Riley's grades beginning to drop and told her he was a bad influence, and that they wanted her break up with him. Riley got mad at them and they got angrier with her and kicked her out. She had no other choice but to live with Josh than. 
                          
He got mad at her over the littlest things, and beat her. She always tried to break up with him, but that would only make him mad and hurt her more. 
                          
She told me what had happened that night, from when she told him they should break up, to when he beat her and told her to get out, and to where she is now, cuddled into me and my arms holding her tightly. 
                          
"I can't believe you went through all of that." I say quietly. She nods. "Why didn't you break up with him when you noticed he first started acting aggressive towards you?" She shakes her head. 
                          
"I don't know. I didn't think it would get that bad."
                          
"It's okay now. Your safe with me." I lightly kiss her forehead and we both fall asleep.
