Chapter 9. All Aboard

                                    

                                          
...two weeks after Mew was hospitalized...
He gave the impression of being important and official in his white coat and stethoscope around his neck.  He went to see his young patient.  The Doctor flipped through the chart at the nurse's station before entering the room.  
Young Mr Noomnoi's condition was grave in the beginning but he was a strong and, a healthy blossoming adult.  From what he could see, the boy had a loving family and was surrounded by support.  Not a day had passed or,  was there hardly an hour when Mew didn't have someone there caring for or talking to him.  His friends and family seemed to work in shifts.  Even when he was sleeping,  a body accompanied him.  Barry knew this lad was very much loved.
Something else made this particular damaged boy special.  Barry's old friend from medical school was the one who brought him to the hospital.  Knock talked at length with him about his condition and treatment.  He gave an excellent and detailed description of the accident and had predetermined all the injuries precisely.  His care took on even more importance,  Knock clearly considered this boy family.
Barry was and always had been strict in his ethics.  He did not make a habit of ogling patients or in this case their visitors.  It was only after the first two weeks and long after Knock had left the boy in his care that Barry found the courage to ask about his family and in particular,  one very handsome man that came every day, he spent a great deal of time entertaining Mew.
When Barry described him,  Knock said:  "Ah,  his name is Captain Mongkut."

Knock climbed the three stairs from the bunking cabin.  When he pushed open the small doors the blinding sunlight poured in.
