galen and iris had gotten ready together with the help of iris' older sister, maude. galen was wearing a short black jean skirt with 3 buttons by the zipper, with a black long sleeve turtle neck. her hair was straightened, unlike her normal loose curls, and it was pulled up into a half pony tail as well. galen's makeup was done to perfection by maude, with a glossy pink lip gloss and a light pink eyeshadow to match.

iris had a crop-halter top that was laced with rhinestones, and a high waisted pink skirt. iris and galen both felt weird going to a dance wearing a huge poofy dress, so they both agreed skirts with normal shirt, but leslie, iris' mom, said she couldn't just wear a shirt from her closet to the school dance if she was going with a boy. iris had normal makeup, with a bit more eyeshadow and highlighter and bright red lipstick. she left her hair in its normal curls, which she didn't like very much, but galen and maude agreed that her hair matched the outfit.

maude dropped galen off at finn's house where simon and finn were waiting. iris noticed lilia's car was in the driveway.

"bye galen! tell the boys to make themselves look nice for once!" maude yelled, making fun of their friends.

"bye galen, i'll be there in spirit!" iris yelled at galen as she was already walking inside finn's front door.

maude drove iris to the dance, because dane just wanted to meet up with her there. leslie and judd didn't like this idea, because they thought iris was trying to hide a boy from them. maude convinced them that it was okay though.

iris was nervous, it being her first school dance that she wasn't going with her friends. she wondered what her friends would be doing at this exact moment, without her.

"galen! pass the fucking controller over here! you don't want simon to beat your ass!" finn would yell at galen while they played video games in finn's basement instead of taking group pictures right away. it happened every year. but they would eventually take pictures, but they wouldn't be like normal group pictures on school dances. she liked that they weren't the most normal group of people. the awesomeness squad as finn has called the group of kids for about 4 years.

iris sat in maude's car nervous. she held danes boutineer in her hand. she hadn't talked to him about corsages and flowers and all that junk but she assumed he got her a corsage. so she got him a bouitneer.

when iris had gotten to the dance, she saw lots of bodies, so she couldn't spot dane right away. she soon saw him though, she saw him grinding with another girl, in the grade above them. iris walked over to dane and slapped his arm, and cursed at him until his "date" got disturbed and ran away.

"dick move, apatow." dane said, before spitting at her shoes.

"well, you know what dane? you're a real asshole, you know that?!" iris yelled through tears and her voice cracking on every other word. now the whole gym was staring at her.

iris didn't know how to feel, so she ran to the bathroom and cried. it was a way of coping. it seemed that whenever a problem had happened, she would either go to finn, simon, and galen, or go to the bathroom and cry. oh, how she could use her best friends about now.

she looked at herself in the mirror and she thought she looked disgusting, she didn't like the way she looked after she cried. sometimes that's why she would cry for hours. but she didn't happen to cry often. she was tough but she didn't believe it during this moment.

as she rubbed her smudged makeup off and tried to blend some of her makeup back together to try to look like she hadn't been crying, even though all the students in the gym knew she had been.

she was interrupted by a boy walking into the bathroom. not a very attractive boy, one with curly hair. his name was wyatt.

"iris, are you okay?" he asked her. iris nodded her head, but he knew she wasn't. "let's go dance, yeah?" iris nodded her head slowly. at least some boys were nice.
