Chapter 32
Arabella was restless that night; she dreaded the coming of dawn. She knew her mother was serious when she said she wanted to rid the world of the royal family of Amstia. She was crazy to think that she could rule over a Kingdom and change things for werewolves. If anything it would only prove to people how harmful werewolves can be. There was nothing Arabella could do to save the royal family try as she might.
She glanced to the door where she knew there were two guards, to ensure she didn’t try anything. She may be out of the dungeons but this felt the same as imprisonment. She may have the ability to go wherever she wanted but with her mother’s men always one step behind her the freedom fell short.
Unable to remain in the room her mother had ordered her to Arabella pulled open the door making the guards stand to attention. She ignored their gazes and started walking down the halls. She didn’t have to tell them where she felt like going, they were only told to stop her if she tried to do something not allowed. She was sure her mother had instructed them for a while on what was and was not accepted from her daughter.
Finding her way to the throne room she waited as the doors were opened for her by the guards and then walked in. The first thing she noticed was that everything that reminded people of the royal family had been removed and piled into a corner with a piece of woven fabric placed on top to hid them from sight. The only reason that Arabella knew what was under the fabric was because a goblet with the King’s crest had rolled out from under hinting that there was other important treasures discarded like garbage.
Her mother sat in the biggest throne, her level of greed didn’t change in the time they hadn’t seen each other. Arabella scowled at the sight of her mother with a crown a top of her head, she didn’t have royal blood coursing through her veins, and she had no right to wear a crown as if she was the ruler of the Kingdom. In reality she wasn’t even important, a peasant just like her daughter.
“You don’t rule anything,” Arabella told her mother not fearing her reaction. She was already going to execute the royal family and her best friend. Arabella didn’t care about what her mother would do in her anger, she knew with certainty that her mother would never kill her only daughter, therefore Arabella had become reckless. She wanted to see how far she could push her mother, how much longer she could postpone the deaths of the royal family.
“Not yet,” her mother snapped. “That will change very soon. The castle has fallen to the werewolf siege. We have won; there is nothing anyone will be able to do about it. You should get that through your head, daughter of mine.” Arabella’s eyes narrowed at her mother’s condescending tone.
“You will never be the ruler, not even when you kill the true leaders of Amstia,” Arabella replied crossing her arms. Arabella’s mother smirked and waved a hand alerting her daughter’s two guards. They nodded and bowed to her mother and then left the room. Getting an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach Arabella frowned at the throne room doors.
“We’ll see about that,” her mother laughed cruelly. “Anyone who doesn’t accept my rule will be killed. They will learn eventually to listen to me. I will lead them through fear, who says that I need them to respect me?”
Shouts were heard from outside the throne room and Arabella stepped back as the throne room doors opened. In came the two guards dragging with them the struggling King, over one of the guard’s shoulders was the limp body of the Queen. The King’s head was strangely bare without his crown. For a moment Arabella’s heart beat sped up as she wondered if the Queen was dead. She couldn’t think of a reason the Queen would be killed before the King however and her theory that the Queen was dead was disproved when she heard the soft sound of the Queen breathing as she was laid on the floor.
