Kai's eyes went wide and her hair turned yellow as she saw the princess, "Princess Allura?" she gasped then kneeled, bowing her head and placing a fist over her heart, "I really thought I'd never see you again, this is such a surprise."
"Please, we're far past you bowing to me," Allura said then walked over and hugged the girl after Kai stood.
She quickly hugged back, "It's so good to see you," she said then looked up and grinned, her hair now white again, "You're as alluring as always, Princess."
Allura let go and laughed brightly, "I've missed how you always joked like that, Insui."
"Insui? Wait, that's right, I can't believe I forgot my name when it was that simple," she started laughing too, "Though I kind of prefer Kai, I'll allow you to continue calling me Insui."
The two laughed for a couple minutes more and Lance was a little stunned.
"Did Kai just flirt with Allura? And Allura laughed at it? That is so unfair, she never laughs when I flirt with her," Lance complained to the other paladins.
"Well you have to account for the fact that they've been friends since forever and Kai probably doesn't mean anything by the flirting," Pidge commented, "also why is her hair changing colors?"
"She said it changes depending on her emotions when she lets it," Hunk answered, "White means happy."
"Yellow must be surprise or something," Pidge thought out loud.
The two alien girls caught their breath and Kai turned to Coran, "I see you haven't changed one bit, Coranic."
Coran smiled and walked over, "I see you haven't forgotten that name."
"How could I when it fits so well? Except for those simple fumbles from time to time, Sanai," Kai chuckled.
"You still refuse to tell me what that means, will you tell me now?" Coran asked.
"Have you been studying those translation scrolls I gave you all those years ago?" Kai crossed her arms with a smug grin, her eyes actually glinting.
Coran looked defeated, "Sadly no, I seemed to have misplaced them."
"Like I said before, you'll understand my nickname when you learn Kalvorian," Kai laughed a little and patted Coran's head.Pidge walked over, "Okay, I have a ton more questions now," she said, glasses glinting in the light and hiding her eyes.
"Alright, I will answer them but I'd like to change first," Kai looked at Allura, "Is my room still there or did you give it to one of the paladins?"
"The one closest to the training deck? It's as you left it," Allura smiled brightly.
Kai smiled and nodded a thanks then gestured for Pidge to follow, "Come, I'll let you look around my room while I change, you can ask your questions as we're there," she looked up at the others, "Any of you are free to join."
Lance grinned then started to take a step towards them when Kai spoke again.
"Any except the manuke!" she said with a frown, her hair blue.
"I don't even know what that means!" Lance whined.
Coran piped up, "Ah, I remember this one, it roughly translates to disrespectful moron," he said.
"Nice remembering," Kai commented, once again her hair returned to white.
Lance's jaw dropped and Pidge laughed, Keith let a snicker escape then resumed his stoic expression.Kai and Pidge reached Kai's old room and she smiled, "It's just as I remember it, even all my old hani are here."
"Hani?" Pidge questioned.
Kai picked up a stuffed alien toy from a pile that simply looked like a fluffy, brown ball with eyes, "This is a hani, a common creature from my home though this one is fake," she said, holding it out to Pidge.
Pidge took it and looked it over, sitting on Kai's bed as the alien girl went to her closet and stripped, Pidge turning away out of decency.
"Okay, first question, what do you call Coran?" Pidge asked.
"Sanai? Oh, that simply means silly man but I like to mess around with him and tease him since he doesn't know Kalvorian," Kai says, changing into a black, form-fitting outfit that exposed her mid-drift, similar to Shiro's except for the exposed middle. "I can't believe this still fits."
Pidge snuck a peek and her eyes roamed over the slightly muscular form of the Kalvorian, "So how old are you?"
"Well, ignoring the centuries I spent in cryo-sleep, I am roughly sixteen," Kai said, turning to see Pidge looking at her, "I don't mind if you watch me dress, in fact I'd find it rude if you didn't as the simple acts of changing clothing or bathing aren't exactly private on Kalvor. You'd be assumed to be hiding something if you didn't change or bathe with others."
"Wow, Kalvor sounds so interesting, will you tell me more? Like what the colors of your hair mean," Pidge hugged the stuffed toy.
Kai walked over and began explaining, "Well black is neutral, indifferent or just to hide emotions. Yellow is shock or surprise, white is happiness, blue is anger or irritation, green is excitement, red is for embarrassment, nervousness or love, passion is included with love, pink is for sorrow or sadness. There are so many different colors, but do not come near me when it's purple, I will most likely attack you if you do, there isn't an English word to describe it but in Kalvorian it's jeiti-vanu, it's that feeling when you're focused on fighting or in the midst of battle and you could mistake your comrade for an enemy if they come up without warning. The safest way to get my attention would be stand at a distance and call out my name."The two spent until dinner asking questions back and forth in Kai's room, when Shiro found them to tell them dinner was ready they both got up and made their way to the Altean equivalent of a dining room. Everyone else was already there and Pidge was laughing as the two entered.
"So that's why I make that joke with Allura," Kai finished with a giggle and Pidge was busting her guts.
The other paladins were so confused and it was Lance who spoke first.
"Whoa, what did you do to Pidge?" he asked.
"I simply told an entertaining story about why I flirt with Allura," Kai answered with a smile then took a seat next to the green paladin who finally calmed down.
"You're so funny, I don't think I've ever laughed that much," Pidge said.
Kai smiled and her hair flashed red for a split second before turning black, "You sound nice when you laugh so I'll be sure to make you do so more," she said.
"It's so good to see you getting along with the paladins," Allura said from the head of the table.
"Yeah, Pidge even explained that Lance didn't mean to offend me so I'm no longer holding a grudge against him," Kai said, shoveling a spoonful of food goo in her mouth.
"Good, at least you won't call me ma-man-manoke anymore," Lance said, his mispronunciation causing Kai to choke on her food goo.
Kai swallowed what was left then coughed a couple times, "No, no no no, never say that word, it means something completely different from manuke!" she exclaimed.
"Wait, what did I say?" Lance asked.
"What you said, manoke, that means mating partner," the Kalvorian explained, making a couple of the other paladins choke on their goo.
Keith threw a glare at Lance then stood, "I just lost my appetite, I'll be on the training deck."
"I'll come with you, I lost my appetite too," Kai said, following Keith out.
